H.H. the Aga Khan arrives in Dhaka

The Aga Khan is on a seven day official visit to India till May 19, during which he will meet diferent Indian political leaders including Indian President Pratibha Patil, and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and he will also visit the Indian cities of Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

The Aga Khan, the 49th Hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, holds his hand on his heart during the opening ceremony of the new Delegation of Ismaili Imamat in Ottawa on Saturday Dec. 6, 2008.

The Golden Jubilee Emblem

At the centre of the Emblem is the Imam's crest. The fifty crescents surrounding the Crest represent the half century of the spiritual leadership of Mawlana Hazar Imam. The outer ring embodies a verse from the Holy Qur'an (Surah 4, Ayat 1) rendered in calligraphy in the Fatimid Kufic script and reads as follows:

O mankind !
Be careful of your duty to your Lord
Who created you from a single soul
and from it created its mate
and from them twain hath spread abroad
a multiple of men and women
