jo nek sohobat paaee-e ek dam, to ganeemat jaano vae dam;
ke ek dam kalamaa kufar tutte, ek dam tobaa kare gunaah gum;
ek dam traa(m)baa sonaa hove, paaras bhette padde tta(n)kashaal;
ek dam mohobat maulaa vase, to chhutt padde sab ja(n)jaal.......247

If you attain good company for one breath, than know the breath as being valuable. For, by one breath of the profession of faith(kalima), infidelity is broken, one breath of repentance reduces sins to nothing. By one breath copper becomes gold, when the philosopher's stone strikes the mint. If for one breath, the Lord is present, than one is free from all worries and problems.

nek sohobat akhteeyaar karo, to bure loku(n)se raho amaan;
nek sohabatke barakatse(n)thee bureke buraaee na paho(n)che aan;
dushman buraaee kare so tuje naa paho(n)che, jo tu(n) sa(n)gaatee kee-aa nek;
sa(n)saar buree balaa sab tujathee bhaage, jo aap man vasaayo allaah ek............248

Create the influence of good company around you, than you will be free from the evil lot. Through the influence(grace) of good company, the evil will not reach the evil minded. When an enemy commits evil, it will not effect you, if you are in the company of the pure. The evil and misfortunes of the world will run away from you, if your mind is resided by one God.

dostkee maar bohot dukh laage, jo keese dost aape deve maar;
orke haathse patharbee halkaa laage, dostke haathse fulbee laage bhaar;
ke hamaaraa dost peechhaan keeyu(n) maaraa, ye tan man laage gam;
momeen allaah peechhaan gunaah kare, vay rozee deve dekho karam..249

A blow from a friend is very painful, if at all any friend hits you. From the hands of another person, even a stone feels feeble, whereas from the hands of a friend a flower feels heavy. For, recognising my friend why did I hit him, as a result my body and mind are both in sorrow. A momin recognising God commits sins, yet He bestows livelihood! see how merciful.

meelane jaa-o maradse ayesaa, jayesaa tuje kare man vaar;
thoddee baddaaee deve to thoddaa meelo, bohot deve to meelo bohot vaar;
ba(n)daa meelanaa meelanhaar sa(n)g, sadaa na meele ekee reet;
to thoddee ba(n)dagee bohot neevaaje, ayse saahebsu(n) keeyu(n) na karee-e preet.....250

Go and meet such a man who ennobles you or enriches your mind(heart). If he ennobles you little, then meet him less frequently, and if he gives you more than meet him more often. A creature in meeting with his meeting counterpart, does not always meet in the same manner or intensity. For, by performing little servanthood, he is enriched a great deal. To such a master why don't you love and devote yourself.

jo preet meetra ghaaddee chaaho, to na raakho paddadaa a(n)tar;
ke meetrakaa tthaam to deel he, to deelbee hay meetrakaa ghar;
deel karo ghar meetrakaa, so meetra karo subhaan paak;
jees deel paak vase so paak huaa, or sab deelme(n) paddeeyo khaak............251

If you desire to love your Friend more, than do not keep a veil in your heart. For, the abode of the friend is the heart, than the heart is also the home of the friend. Make your hearts the home of the friend, and a friend who is the Pure and Glorious. The heart in which the Pure resides has become pure, and all the other hearts have been occupied by dust.

bhaayu(n)kaa beechhaddanaa sahee bujo, hay aap deelkaa jalaayaa;
jo bhaaee karo tum dunee-aa maa(n)he, so beechhaddate bohot rahe buddaayaa;
preet na karee-e ayse meetrase, jo beechhaddate na laage ddheel;
meetra karo jo sadaa sa(n)g rahe, so aap paak hae rabal jaleel..252

Know that the separation of a brother in truth is your heart's burning. If you make someone your brother in this world, then when he separates, a great deal of aging occurs. Do not love such a friend, who does not take too long to separate. Befriend someone who always remains your companion, and the one who himself is pure is the Lord the greatest.

deendaaree jo adakee chaaho, to sa(n)gat karo jeese hae mohabat deen;
deenkaa jeese nahee chaavaa, usasu(n) meetraaee mat keen;
sa(n)gat karo deendaarkee, neet jaa bayttho usake paas;
hee(n)gake baasanme(n) hee(n)g baase, fulu(n)ke baasanme(n) hove fulu(n)kee baas........253

If you desire more religious company, than make companionship with those who have love for religion. Those who have no love for religion, do not have friendship with them. Have companionship with the religious gathering, everyday go and seat with them. Around hing(a bad substance), a bad odour is produced, whereas around flowers a pleasant smell of flowers is felt.

par meelannese aap jaat ttole meel chaalo, aap jaatme(n) karo sagaaee;
sa(n)gat vahevaar usase karo, jeenase hove deen bhalaaee;
aap deenke pa(n)thame chaalo, saath le chalo deenbhaaee;
to ekakee ba(n)dagee dekh dujaa kare, ees reet pal pal vadhe kamaaee...........254

In seeking to meet others, it is better to meet with those of your own kind(faith), have relationships among your own kind. Have companionship and relationships with those whose religious life is sound. Proceed on the Path of your religion, and take along with you, your brothers in religion. Then observe each others' servanthood. In this manner, gradually your rewarding actions will increase.

adakee dostee karo aap karaabat, to adakaa hove tumaaraa dolat maal;
baap maaee ben bhaaee or sage, ahesaan karo tum sabake haal;
rab farmaave nek kharch jo enu(n) kaaje, loku(m)bee kahe sunnaayaa;
yateem meesakeen so-aalee ba(n)dh chhoddaanaa, e sab nek kharch gannaayaa...........255

Keep more friendship of your close relatives, then your prosperity will increase. Father, mother, sister, brother and relatives, be considerate for the plight of all of them. The Lord says that if you spend your earnings on them then it is a pure expenditure. Also if wealth is expended on the orphans, the pure, and the needy ones, it is also to be regarded as pure expenditure.

nekee maa baap sa(n)g jo karanaa, so aakabat kaaran aagam pu(n)jee dharanaa;
maa baapkaa hay bohot hay lagataa, so deelase nahee beesarnaa;
karo maa baapkee chaakaree, to hove anat bhalaaee;
to sahee aakabat kaaranne, aapannee aagam pu(n)jee chalaaee.....256

If you perform goodness in the company of your parents, than it will be regarded as your advance capital for the hereafter. There are many obligations towards your parents, do not forget these from your hearts. Look after your parents, than you will have untold good tidings. Than you will have in truth, carried along with you capital for the sake of the hereafter.

ree-aat karo maa baapkee, kaal aayasee putar teraa;
vay bee teree reeyaat karasee, kamaaee fal tu(n) paayasee saveraa;
keesee ba(n)de kamaaee fogatt nahee jaatee, jeene jaysaa kee-aa taysaa paayaa;
teraa putar tujaku(n) chaayasee, jaysaa tu(n) maa baapku(n) chaayaa......257

Respect your parents, tomorrow your sons will come. They will also respect you. You will attain your earned fruits quickly. Any creature's earnings have not gone wasted, whatever one has done so has he attained. Your sons will look after you just as you have looked after your parents.

bhalaa sa(n)gaatee vay teraa, jo tuje bataave nek kaam;
jo nekee tu(n) nahee jaantaa, usakaa tujaku(n) sheekhaave naam;
nek sa(n)gat vay jaano, jo tuje bataave nek raah;
to sa(n)gat karo aal rasulkee, jo neet nekee bataave raah allaah........258

Your good companion is the one who shows you good action. If you do not know goodness, he teaches you the concept of it. Know a good companion as the one who shows you the Good Path. Than keep companionship of the progeny of the Messenger, who shows you goodness daily and the Path of God.

jeesakaa meetra aakeel puraa, to vaybee hove vaysaa;
aakeelku(n) to aakeel bhaave, meetra jaysekaa hove taysaa;
doe meetra ek dujeku(n) chaahve, to je koee chaahve jaat eelaahee;
ke allaah to hae sudh budh puraa, chaahannhaarebee sudh budh paaee.........259

The one whose friend is perfectly intelligent, than he himself will become like him. The intelligent likes the intelligent, he becomes whatever his friend is. Both friends like each other. Then if anyone desires the essence of God, for God is indeed perfectly aware and intelligent, than the lover(of God) attains awareness and intelligence.

jo chaaho khushhaalee deelakee, ke deel rahe khush gulzaar;
to jo bhaaee beeraadar deenakaa, usakaa neet karo deedaar;
jo bhaaee beeraadar deenake, so ek ghatt ek jee-aa;
ek dujeku(n) dekh khushee kare, jeeu(n) peeaasu(n) bhette pee-aa..........260

If you desire joy of the heart, that the heart should remain a rose garden; than if there is a brother(Guide) in religion, go and see his face (in a loving manner). Brothers (and sisters) are one in soul and heart. Therefore seeing each other ignites joy, just like a lover embracing the Beloved.[Going to congregation engenders unity].

dostku(n) jo dost dekhe, to nenume(n) hay roshanee aatee;
nen sukh vase ne mukh hase, hetsu(n) bharee rahe usakee chhaatee;
to dostee aysee pakee karee-e, jo khudaa-e aage hove kabul;
to dostee karo sa(n)g aal nabee, a(n)t chhuttkaa deelaave aal rasul.........261

If a friend sees a friend, than in the eyes there is the emergence of light. There is happiness in the eyes and the face smiles, and his chest is filled with love. Then ripen the friendship in such a manner that in the presence of God, it is accepted. Then maintain friendship of the progeny of the Prophet, the Messenger enables you to get final freedom.

dekho preet dudh paaneekee, dudh letaa paaneeku(n) meelaa;
garam honeke vakat par paanee, dudh bachaave aap jalaa;
uchhal dudh so aag bujaave, jalate paaneekee karataa bachaa;
vesee tareh ek dusarekee, madad kare so dost sachaa.............262

Observe the love between milk and water, milk accepts water as a good friend. When the time of heating comes up upon water, milk saves it by burning itself. Evaporated milk extinguishes the fire, by burning itself, it saves water. In this manner if you help each other, you are indeed true friends.

dudh paaneekaa meelaap dekho, aysee karo tum mohabat preet;
madad karo tum ek dusarekee, aysee rakho tum moman reet;
ek deelee par hak raajee hae, aap hak hay usakaa rafeek;
ayse padaku(n) yaad karo neet, saaf deelee hay sachaa safeek....263

Look at the kind of mixture of milk and water, of such kind have affection and love. Help each other, maintain such a relationship of momins. The Truth is happy with unity of hearts, your Truth is it's friend. Remember this status every day, purity of the heart is the true cure of disease.

neet utth sajan dekhee-e, to haree hove nehkee vaaddee;
nehkaa fal to ye hae, jo dekhee-e aap sajan dahaaddee;
baag to fale nehkaa, jo neet paanee see(n)cho deedaar;
hardam jeekar jo karo, to tan man neh vase aap seerjanhaar......264

Everyday rise and meet your brothers and sisters, then the garden of love will be fresh and green. The fruits of love are these, of seeing the Beloved daily. The garden of love will bear fruit, if you water it with daily loving contact of face to face with others or with the Lord. If you remember God every breath, than your body and mind will be resided by love, your Creator.

akal ne hushee-aaree hove use, jeesakaa so akal hove utam;
kavekaa bachaa bolane na sheekhe, tote(popatt) upar hay rabakaa karam;
pa(n)khee meene utam budh usakee, jo nek asal ne nek jamaal;
aadamee-o meene utam budh nabeekee, or nabeejeekee aal..........265

The mind and intelligence are to those who have the most exalted(noble) minds. An offspring of a crow does not learn how to speak, whereas a parrot has been graced with the Lord's mercy. Among birds the one with most intelligence, is that which has pure origin and pure beauty. Amongst mankind the one with the greatest intelligence is the Prophet and the Prophet's progeny.

nek meejalasme(n) neet neet jaaee-e, sunee-e elam erfaan eelaahee;
nek meejalasme(n) neet neet jaate, ghatte agnaan or deelakee see-aahee;
deel roshan hove saaf aaeenaa, usame(n) deeese hak deedaar;
khud manajal apaneeku(n) paave, e farmaayaa saahebe eesraar.....266

Attend the gatherings of the pure ones daily, listen to Divine knowledge and wisdom. By going to the gatherings of the pure ones daily, ignorance and heart's darkness will decrease. The heart becomes clean as a mirror, and therein the Vision(face) of the Truth is seen. You will attain great heights(in spiritual life), this is said by the Knower of the Inner Mysteries.

Q. Bayaan Peeree Va Meeragakaa - Old Age And Death

khabar de gaee motkee, jab safedee aaee tere sheesh;
ab tosaa kar le raahakaa, ke safar aayaa hae tere peesh;
ab chhodd eemaarat gharkee, aap ghar ttheraa-o dhor;
ke saa(n)j subah hae utth chalanaa, jaae basanaa hae usahee tthor.........229

The message of death has come to you when your head(hair) has become white. This message says that you should be ready for your journey ahead. You will leave this building of your house, and your new residence will be the grave. This message also states that you will have to rise and leave this place either in the morning or in the evening, and go to reside in that place(grave).

buddaayaa vadhaaee motkee laayaa, cheto bhegee karo kamaaee;
ujale baal ab deen aayaa, kaale baal raat sute gamaaee;
kaale baal jaysee raat gafalatkee, vae umaroho taysee gaee;
safedee subah huee dekho cheto, ab to pu(n)jee thoddee rahee....230

The old age has brought you the welcoming gesture of death, take heed and gather together the rewarding deeds. The days of your grey hair(old age) have come whereas you lost the opportunity of your black hair(youth) in sleep of the night. The period of black hair was like a night of ignorance, and the entire life passed in that state. The white morning has come about, observe and take heed, as little of your material capital is left.

buddaayaa khabar motkee kaheve, neeraash kare so haeeyaateese(n)thee;
abake tu(n) jo a(n)t lobhaayaa, to tu(n) boyasee or koee lunnasee khetee;
dunee-aa saraame(n) tu(n) hae musaafar, raat gaee jo the kaale baal;
safedee subah huee, huee chalanne velaa, paddaa haal chaal....231

The old age gives you the information about death, and it brings despair with it. If you get into temptation at the end, then you will sow and someone else will reap. In this guest house of the world you are a traveller, the night has passed away during which you had black hair. The white morning is here, it is the time of departure, fallen are your ways and state of well being.

sab rogthee baddaa rog buddaayaa, jo javaanse hove peer;
to sab rog aa kar us ghatt baetthe, pal pal ghatte aaraam shareer;
javaaneeme(n) kar le utam kamaaee, buddaayeme(n)na hoesee javaan;
jo buddaa huvaa to begee cheto, bhaaee tu(n) hae koee damkaa mahemaan......232

Out of all diseases, old age is the greatest, If one becomes old from young age, then all the diseases come and seat in the body. Gradually the peace and comfort of the body decreases. During your youth, perform exalted rewarding work. At old age you will not have the youthful vitality. If you are old take heed early, brother you are a guest for a short while.

buddaayaa nahee hae umaroh maa(n)he, ke ab umarse naa kuchh hove fal;
sunnanaa dekhnaa sudhabudha teree e sabme(n) paddaa hae khalal;
ab dunee-aase naa leej-jat paayasee, na ba(n)dagee kar sagasee ees kaayaa;
jeetaa vae jeene javaaneeme(n) khaayaa peeyaa deeyaa leeyaa, or vohee aakabat kamaayaa...............233

Old age can be a redundant part of life, wherein nothing worthwhile is achieved. Hearing, seeing, awareness and intelligence is all impaired at that age. You cannot enjoy the worldly pleasures and cannot perform your servanthood with your frail bodies. The winners are those who in their youth, ate, drank, gave and received, they are the ones who have earned the hereafter.

jab gaee javaanee yaad kare, to bohot aap deel meene pastaave;
e pastaanaa fogatt bhaaee javaanee fer nahee aave;
nahee feere nadee jo paanee beh gayaa, nahee feere javaanee jo umaroho gaee;
javaanee meene jeene ba(n)dagee keetee, bohot vae kamaayaa sahee..........234

When one remembers his/her youth, then he/she will regret it a great deal in his heart. Such regrets will be in vain brother, the youth does not return. Just as the river does not return in the upstream direction when water has flown downstream, the youth does not return when life has passed. Those who have performed servanthood in their youth, have truly earned for themselves a great deal.

umarohokee baakee amulak hae, sab maalse karee-e pee-aar;
jo ek dam umaroho adakee paaee-e, to mul deeje saaraa sa(n)saar;
us dam aachhee kamaaee hove, ke tobaa teree hove kabul;
ek dam traa(m)baa sonaa hove, behest lennekaa hove mul..........235

The remainder of your life is valuable, love with all your wealth. If you have attained an additional breath, then be charitable to the entire world. That breath has had pure earnings, when the repentance has been accepted. If for one breath, copper and gold are possessed, they should be utilised to purchase paradise.

roshan kar bhaaee nur buddaayaa, gunaahsethee mat kar a(n)dheraa;
ees nur buddaaye karo kamaaee, to roshan hove deel bee teraa;
rehen javaan mast hoee sutaa, aayaa buddaayaa roshan dees;
ab jaag utth kar le kamaaee, nahee to rab karasee rees..........236

Enlighten o brother, your old age, do not darken it with sins. Through such enlightened old age, perform rewarding deeds then your hearts will be enlightened. During the night of your youth you where fast asleep. The old age has arrived and observe the light. Wake up rise and obtain profit, else the Lord will be angry.

buddaayaa aayaa cheto bhaaee, ber ber keeyaa kaheve;
malak motkaa sheer par aayaa, koee gaafal ho mat raheve;
laddake javaan budde jaeef, mat jaano motku(n) dur;
mot najeek dekh khudaaesu(n) ddaro, to tum deel vase rabakaa nur........237

Old age has arrived so take heed, remind yourself repeatedly of this fact. The angel of death is hovering over your head, no one should remain ignorant about this. Whether you are young as a child or old and feeble, do not consider death to be far away. By perceiving death to be near fear God, then your heart will be filled by the light of God.

jo aap man naseehat chaaho, to mot yaad karo e hae naseehat khaasee;
ke aakhar maranaa dhor ghar karanaa, dunee-aakaa saathee koee sa(n)g na aasee;
jeene ye bujaa une lobh paap chhoddaa, dunee-aase ho betthaa neeraalaa;
vaaej naseehat yu(n) gun huee, ke chhodd deve dunee-aa kasaalaa.......238

If you wish good advice for your mind, then remember death, this indeed is the best advice. That you will in the end die and make the grave as your home. No companion of this world will come with you. Those who have understood this, have abandoned greed and sin, and in this world they are seated as pure ones. The virtue of waez is that you abandon the hustle and bustle of the world.

maataa pettsu(n) jo baalak neekalaa, usaku(n) motkaa aayaa pegaam;
ke jo dunee-aame(n) aayaa vae to marasee, dunee-aa to hae fanaah mukaam;
maataa odarsu(n) baahaar aate, baalak rove us ghaddee;
ke ab to ma(n)y dunee-aame(n) aayaa, kal mot aa hove muj par khaddee........239

From the time when a mother gave birth to the child, it has received the message of death. That when one arrives in the world, he will have to die, the world is but a perishable abode. When a mother gives birth to a child, the child cries at that moment, "I have come into the world, tomorrow death there will be death for me for certain".

maranaa jeene sach kar maanaa, use dunee-aame(n) keeyaa karanee hae khushee;
ees buj saath jo khushee kare, to khushee nahi e to hae behoshee;
par mulak jaate umaroho ghatte, deel naa kahe ke e mulak meraa;
to dunee-aa mulaksu(n) kaa(n)e deel baa(n)dho, deelku(n) keene bataayaa ke ye mulak hay teraa........240

Those who have understood death as real, have done deeds that have produced joy and happiness. Having realised this, if he indulges in worldly pleasures, than it is not happiness but misery. Going to a foreign kingdom shortens life, and the heart does not say that it is my kingdom. Then why do you bind your heart to the worldly kingdom. When did you show your heart that this is my kingdom.

jo aap ajal ba(n)daa yakeen jaane, ke dunee-aase hae muje jaanaa;
to dunee-aa umed magarur naa rahe, jaane ke ye hae khottaa vashaanaa;
ajal apanee yakeen kar jaano, ke sadaa rahenaa nahee ees jahaan;
to dunee-aa umed sahee kam hove, pal pal ghatte abhemaan........241

If a creature knows his own time of death with conviction, that "I will have to leave this world", then worldly desires and pride do not remain. For he knows that these are false excuses. Know with conviction about your time of death, that you will not live in this world for ever. Then the worldly desires will truly be less, and gradually pride will decrease.

aap mot beesaare deel a(n)dheraa, jeeyu(n) been saraanne kaatt bharee shamser;
deel roshan chaaho to mot yaad karo, utth-te baetth-te aver saver;
jo apanaa chalanaa yaad karo, usathee naa kuchh hove badee;
ke ba(n)dhaa paanee ga(n)daa hove, ga(n)dee na hove chaltee nadee..........242

Forgetting your death will darken your heart, just as a bright sword becomes rusty when it is not sharpened regularly. If you want light in your hearts, than remember death, while rising up or sitting or whenever possible. If you remember your departure, than you will not have impurity. Motionless and stagnant water becomes dirty, whereas a flowing river does not become dirty.

mot yaad kee-e deel roshan hove, hardam mot karanaa yaad;
ek deen aysaa aayasee, jo ghar ujaadd hove ghor aabaad;
ghor meene jaa ghar karoge, gharame(n) bese(n)ge or koee;
e sun kar je koee chetyaa, roshan hu-aa hae deel sohee..........243

Remembrance of death enlightens the heart, upon every breath remember death. One day will arrive when your (worldly)home will become barren and the grave will be your final abode. One day you will have to habitat the grave and someone else will live in your home. Those who having heard this have taken heed are truly the ones whose hearts have become enlightened.

jo yakeen motkaa tujaku(n) hu-aa, ke maranaa aakhar hae meraa;
to hardam tu(n) nekee kamaav, to sarave zaaher baatan teraa;
e baddaaee jo tumane paaee, to ees baddaaeeku(n) feer nahee mot;
e baddaaee tuje bahest le jaayasee, ees behestme(n) kabee na aave faut.....244

If you have conviction about death, that "I will have to die in the end", than upon every breath you earn virtue, then all that is manifest and that is hidden will be yours. If you attain this greatness, then with this greatness there will not be another death. This greatness will take you to paradise, and in this paradise there will never be death.

malakal mot to sab par aave, sab ba(n)dekee le jaataa hay jaan;
ees marane aagal jo mar chale, so mar kar paave amar makaan;
aysaa maranaa jo mar jaane, vaasal hak vo kaamal fakeer;
e darajaa paave so valee keelaave, e faramaayaa hazarat aap ameer.......245

The angel of death comes upon every person, and know that it takes away every creature. But if one dies before such death, than he will attain an immortal abode after death. If one knows about dying such a death, he knows it as a true return of a perfect renunciant. If one attains such a station, he is regarded as a (perfect) saint, so says Hazarat Ali.

jees bahestme(n) mot na aave, sohee takhat khudaakaa jaan;
khudaa to sab tthorme(n) bastaa, khaalee nahee us been makaan;
sab kul usame(n) vo sabme(n), baaher bheetar hae bharpur;
aysaa samaj jo usame(n) meeleeyaa, so laa mot huaa usakaa nur...246

The paradise in which there is no death, is truly the throne of God. God is present everywhere, There is no place where He does not exist. Everything is in Him, and He is in everything, He is omnipresent inside and outside. If one has attained such an understanding, then his light has become deathless(immortal).

P. Dar Bayaane Sabar Va Shukar - Patience And Gratitude

khush khabaree dee-o aap jeev, jab saburee keetee;
jees ba(n)dene sabar kee-aa, teese fateh rabane deetee;
khaalak-kee sab khalkat jaanee, koee dukh deve to sabar karanaa;
to usathee tu(n) sahee jeete, aysaa maname(n) dharanaa..........207

Give glad tidings to your soul, when you have exercised patience. The creature that has been patient, has been granted success by the Lord. Knowing the Creator's entire creation, if anyone does harm, be patient. Then through that, you will truly win over him. Keep this in your mind.

saburee teree tuj fateh deve, jeese keesee upar aave balaa;
jo vae saburee kare to usaku(n) fateh deve, bujo aap allaah;
saburee karanhaarku(n) rab dost raakhe, aap rab kare a(n)t peeyaar;
ba(n)daa bhalaa vae jo saburee kare, to katthan velaa rab hove usakaa yaar....208

Your patience will give you success. This applies to anyone upon whom calamities befall. The one who exercises patience, to him success is granted by God. The Lord befriends the one who is patient, his Lord loves him very dearly. Noble is the creature who is patient, then in difficult times, the Lord becomes his friend.

fakeer kaamal sa(n)g jo baettho, to shukar kare adakeraa;
fakeereeme(n) to shukar karanaa, sa(n)gat sheekho vae saveraa;
fakeeru(n) ku(n) sabar karanaa, sab haal meene shukaraanaa;
sakhtee naramee e sab nyaamat, rabase peechhaanaa...............209

If you seat in the company of a perfect renunciant, than be very grateful. In the ascetic state be grateful, learn about gratitude in this company. The renunciants are patient, in every situation they are grateful. Whether circumstances are favourable or not, they regard all these as boons derived from the Lord's grace.

sakhtee chheepaannee moman bhaaee, jo kuchh aap upar beete;
e muravat neeshaanee moman keree, or ehee sabarkee reet;
momeen upar aave jo sakhtee, so sabarse chheepaave;
to khudaaekee dargaahme(n) saburee badale, bohot ajar paave.....210

Do not reveal your difficulties, o momin brothers, that which befall upon you. This is the sign of the modesty of a momin, and it is the way of patience. If calamities befall upon a believer, he hides them through patience. Then in the presence of God, in return for patience, he attains great rewards.

bohot sakhtee jees upar aave, sach us par hove aasaaneekee aan,
ke sakhtee peechhe hae aasaanee, e nuktaa kalaam rabaaneese peechhaan;
momanku(n) jo sakhtee paho(n)che, to use peechhe sahee hove aasaanee;
to duneeyaame(n) jeene kasannee sahee, vo aakabatme(n) hove jan-nat makaanee.........211

If great calamities come upon someone, then in truth this person has earned peace. For after calamities there is peace, know this as a teaching from the Lord. If calamities hit a believer, then truly after that there will be peace. If a person undergoes tribulations in this world, he will have an abode of paradise in the hereafter.

deelakee daaru jo chaaho, to raajee raho rabakee keezaa;
narmee sakhtee jo kuchh paho(n)che, to kaho ham raajee jeeyu(n) tumaaree razaa;
deelku(n) dukh ye jo maal meheree putar dhee-aa, e sabaku(n) haajar chaave;
okhad e jo e sab rabakaa, rab chaahe raakhe chaahe utthaave.....212

If you desire the cure for the anguish of the heart, then remain happy in the Lord's obedience(religious duties). If to anyone tribulations reach, then say: "I am happy with whatever is Your wish". The heart's sorrow is derived from excessive attachment to wealth, assets, sons and daughters and the want to have them present all the time. All is in the power and control of the Lord. If the Lord wishes, He retains and if He wishes, He takes away.

kharaab haal jo moman deese, bhukhaa dunee-aa maa(n)hee;
khudaa-eke najadeek use eej-jat ghanneree, vahaa(n) vo kharaab naa(n)hee;
fakeeruku(n) eej-jat khudaae paase, jo ees duneeyaame(n) hae kharaab;
dunee-aakaa to etbaar nahee, e to fanaah hove sheetaab..........213

If a believer sees bad condition and the hungry in the world, then those are the ones who have great dignity near God, there they are not considered bad. The dignity of the renunciants is with God, if in this world they are considered bad. There is no reliance on this world, it will vanish quickly.

jeene aap tanku(n) vaaraa, rab zaad vase us man saaree;

khudaa to nee-at ne deel dekhe, na dekhe surat or libaas;
atalas pahene to keeyaa huvaa, or keeyaa huvaa jo pehene karabaas......214

The ones who have controlled their bodies, the remembrance of the Lord resides in their hearts entirely. They are better than the ones who adore themselves with rubies and jewels and who wear expensive clothes. God sees the intentions and the heart, He does not see the face or the clothing. So what if one wears silk clothing and so what if one wears high quality (designer!) clothes.

aachhaa khaasaa aysaa aaraam paa-o, jo tum raakho man tthekaanne;
halaal kamaaees rab rozee deve, aap man sa(n)tokho usee pahenane khaanne;
aap manthee paap jutth neekaalo, na karo tume paapkaa khoj;
to adakaa tolanne velaa hove, tumaaree nekeekaa boj.............215

You will attain such real and perfect rest, if you keep your mind(lower self) under control. The Lord gives you your livelihood after lawful earning. Keep your mind contented by clothing and consuming this lawful income. Remove sin and falsehood from your minds, and do not seek sinfulness. Then at the time of weighing (on the day of judgement), the weight of your good deeds will be more(than your sins).

teree rozee tujaku(n) ddhu(n)ddhe, tu(n) aap man kar aaraam;
ek ek daanne par leekhaa hae, so khaanevaalekaa naam;
jees daanne teraa naam leekhaa hae, vahee aave tere mukh;
laakh karodd jo tu(n) hae sha(n)gare, so fogatt karanaa hae dukh........216

Your livelihood is seeking you, keep your mind at rest. Upon every grain is written the name of the consumer. The grain upon which your name is written, will come to your mouth. The millions that you hoard, will be useless and will make you unhappy(if not spent for the right cause).

khudaa har ek-kee rojeekaa jaameen hae, e hadeesh shaahe mardaan;
ba(n)daa tu(n) kaa(n)e rojee haraam ddhu(n)ddhe, rozee tuje deve aap rahemaan;
jo aadmee hove keesee kaamkaa jaameen, to usakaa tuje aave yakeen;
to yakeen keeyu(n) nahee rakhataa hae rab upar, ke rojeekaa jaameen hae rab-bal aalameen...........217

God is the surety for the livelihood of every single person, this is said by Hazarat Aly. O creature, why do you seek unlawful means(rojee), your means are given to you by your Merciful. If a person is a surety of certain work, then you will have complete trust upon him. Then why don't you have complete trust on the Lord, who is the surety of your means, and is the Lord of the worlds.

rab upar jo yakeen kare, ke jeene muje kee-aa hae paedaa;
to rojee muje vohee deve, jo sabaku(n) hae rojee detaa;
to us ghar neet mehemaanee raheve, aap khaave oraku deve bhat-taa;
usakee ho(n)ddee neet josh kare, sadaa raheve usakaa chulaa tataa(garam).......218

If a person has complete trust upon the Lord, who is the one "who has created me". " Then my means will be given by Him, who is the Provider for all." Then for such a person there is always a guest at his house, he eats himself and gives the other person food to take away. His cooking vessel will always be productive, and his cooker will always remain hot.

maradakee eej-jat us meene hae jo meele us upar kare sa(n)tosh;
ghar ghar ddhu(n)ddhataa na feere, apanee eej-jat na khove fok;
jeene rojee deetee so eej-jat bee deve, jo us rojee tum karo aaraam;
jeene us rojee aaraam kee-aa, une eej-jat paaee or baddayaa naam.........219

The dignity of a man lies in that, which when given to him, makes him contented. He does not keep wandering around seeking house after house for his needs. He does not lose his dignity making it null and void. The one who has given the means of livelihood will also give the dignity if you rest in that livelihood. The one who rests in that livelihood, has attained dignity and ennobled his name.

jo tuje meele so bohot kar jaanno, to saaree umar karo baadshaahee;
jeene jo meelaa so thoddaa ghannaa kee-aa, une saaree umar gam-me(n) gamaaee;
sukh dukh beeke ees dunee-aa baazaar, sukh chhodd kaa(n)e dukh mul leaate;
ke aap keesmat nahi raajee rahete, keesamatse adakaa huaa chaahaate.....220

If you receive anything, regard it as a great grace, then for your entire life you will live as a king. The one who receives anything and regards it as little, has indeed spent his entire life complaining. In this shopping street(mall) of the world, happiness and sadness is sold. Abandoning happiness why due you go and buy unhappiness. You are not satisfied with your fate, your desire is more than your fate.

jo koee rojee reejak paayaa, or aafeeyat paayaa apanee jaat;
to pure bhaag usake bhaaee, jo shukar kare vae deen or raat;
ba(n)daa ek chaakarku(n) khaanaa deve, so neet utth usase chaahaave chaakaree;
sarjanhaar to shukar chaahaave, khush aave use shaakaree........221

If anyone has attained the means to his livelihood, and has attained health for himself, then he has perfect fortune brother, if he is grateful day and night. If a creature gives a servant food, then he expects service in return. But the Creator expects thanks, and He becomes happy when you are grateful.

rabakee nyaamat shukar karanaa, jo na kare to beegaadde apanee nyaamat;
ke aap maal vae na sa(n)tokhe, hardam chaahaave maal kasarat;
ke maal muje hove adakeraa, sab dunee-aa maal meele muj;
ees feekarthee na khaave na pehene, ees havaathee umarakaa deevaa jaa-e buj..........222

Be grateful for the boons of the Lord. If a person does not, then his blessings will get corrupt. He is not satisfied with his own wealth, every moment he seeks more wealth. He says, "my wealth should be more, and I should get the wealth of the entire world". With such thoughts he does not eat nor cloth himself. With this wind(of greed), the light of his life is extinguished.

nyaamat paaee ne shukar na kee-aa, to naashukaree nyaamatku(n) le jaayasee;
nyaamat paaee tab na cheteeyaa, to nyaamat gaee peechhe pastaayshee;
haeeyaat duneeyaa nyaamat to fal deve, jo shukar eebaadat keen;
jo e na kare to jeene deetee haeeyaatee, so leve haeeyaatee been fal chheen................223

If one attained the boons and did not thank for them, then the ingratitude will take away the blessings. If one does not take heed when one attains the blessings, then when the blessings cease, he will regret it. In this life and material existence, the blessings will yield fruit, if one practices prayers and gratitude(in the foam of seva and charity). If one does not do so, then the one who gave life will take it away without any fruits.

sab gam peechhe hae khushee-aalee, or daaru(n) hae sab dukhanneku(n);
sab sakhatee peechhe hae aasaanee, samajaa-o deel apanneku(n);
dunee-aa ba(n)deekhaanaa hae momanku(n), or kaafarku(n) hae jan-nat tthaam;
moman dunee-aa sakhtee badale, a(n)t paaesee huraa(n) kasar jan-nat mukaam.....224

After every sorrow there is a joyous occasion, and there is a remedy for all unhappy situations. After every difficulty there is rest and calm, make this understood to your hearts. The world is a prison for a believer, and it is a paradise for an infidel. For the worldly tribulations, a momin will attain an abode of paradise.

nek aadamee jo dukh paayaa, to jaano rahemat rabane bhejee;
or faasak jo dukh paayaa, to karatukase balaa us upar aaee;
ayub nabeekaa dukhaddaa rahemat, jo keedde padde saare a(n)g;
feeraun ddubaa ees balaa, jo laddataa thaa musaa nabeeke sa(n)g.........225

If a virtuous person has experienced tribulation, then know that the Lord has sent His mercy. And if a sinner has experienced tribulations, then it is the result of his bad actions. The tribulations of Prophet Ayub were a mercy, ants were all over his body due to a certain decease. The sinking of Firaaun was a curse, for he fought against Hazarat Musa.

man vaar karo jeene dukh dee-aa, so kheejal hoesee damo dam;
tu(n) man vaar kar vae kheejal hoesee, teraa kuchh na hoesee kam;
jeene dukh dee-aa so sharamee(n)daa hoesee, jo tu(n) bahot kare man vaar;
e baat suno leekho seene paattee, farmaayaa shaahe naamdaar.....226

Do not keep it in your mind if someone harms you, for he will be disgraced and ashamed every breath. If you disregard it, he will be ashamed, and you will have nothing to do with that. The one who has harmed you will be ashamed if you disregard it all the time. Listen to this, record it in your hearts, says Hazarat Aly.

gus-saa daayam aap man khaanaa, or upar gus-saa na karee-e;
gus-saa daaj manme(n) bujaa-o, khudaake gus-sese ddaree-e;
eemaam husenke mo(n)ho mubaarak par, baa(n)dee haathase paddee garam aash;
gus-saa sab aap man khaayaa, farmaayaa tu(n) aazaad baash.......227

Always swallow the anger from your mind, do not be angry upon anyone. Extinguish the fire of anger from your heart, and fear the wrath of God. A slave poured hot porridge upon the face of Hazarat Imam Husein. He swallowed all anger for her in his mind, and said instead, "You are free".

gus-saa na karee-e dheeraj dharee-e, sabaro tofeek karee-e rafeek;
shukar khudaaekaa saathee karee-e, to khudaa tumaaraa hove shafeek;
e tan man teraa to sukh paave, jo haradam shukar karo tum aadat;
shukar saburee aadat huee jeesakee, kabul huee usakee eebaadat..228

Do not be angry and have patience, befriend patience and contentment. Make gratitude towards God your companion, then God will be your helper. This body and mind will attain peace, if at all times you have the habit of thanks giving. The one who has the habit of thanks giving and patience, has his/her prayer accepted.

You will have 'barakah' in your life if you perform pure deeds. Through the effect of bad deeds, there is shortcoming in life. Through pure earnings brother, you will attain the fruits of life. If the earnings are not pure, the whole life becomes a waste.

nekee karo bhaaee momeeno, sa(n)g badee karanhaar,

nekee karo bhaaee us sa(n)g, jo kare buraaee,

jeese daulat rabane deetee, soee nekee kamaayaa,
ke bure kaam upar apanaa, deel nahee chalaayaa..................192

Delaying in performing evil is also a sign of wealth. Delaying in performing vice is also regarded as recognition of virtue. The one whom the Lord has granted wealth, has truly earned purity.
For in bad deeds, he has not engaged his heart.

buraaee karate jo keese dekhe, to aap najar chukaannee,

to bahot baddaaee usakee hove, sab jaanne ye mottaa,
jo ayb paarkaa sabaku(n) kaheve, to sab kahe ye khottaa.........193

If one sees someone do evil, he turns his eyes away from it, and does not keep anything inside him and does not reveal it to anyone. Then great dignity is due to him, and everyone considers him great. On the contrary, if one reveals the faults of others to all, then everyone will say he is false.

jo nek fa-aal kaheve sadaa, to nekee vae sahee paave,

rahemat eelaahee umed raakho, maa(n)go aalam bhalaa,
ke aajthee kaal khub thaaesee, khub karegaa allaah..............194

If one gives good advice always, then he truly attains purity. According to how one gives advice, he progresses. Desire or hope for the mercy of God, ask for what is best in this world. For from today to tomorrow great things will happen, and God will perform all that is worthwhile.

neku(n)ke deel hae nur rab-baanee, ke haradam us deel vase rabakaa nur,

In the hearts of the pure ones is the Light of the Lord, for the upon every breath the Lord's Light resides in their hearts. For his heart is pure even in times of danger, and he stays in the Lord's presence every moment. Being pure you will not feel any effect of worldly trials, if upon every breath you perform pure acts of servanthood. Perform servanthood realising that God is one and pure, then your heart will be the abode of the Lord's Light.

If for the sake of the work of the Lord, you undergo physical mortifications, then you will truly have the strength of purity in your heart. Then your Faith will be joyous(unshakable) and there will be no shortcoming in your Imaan. If your Faith is real, then undergo physical mortifications for the sake of the Messenger and the progeny of the Messenger. If for them you undergo physical mortifications, then Bibi Fatimaht Zahra will intercede for you.

The fire of separation is painful, this fire is more severe than the fire of hell. For fear of hell, (others) perform good deeds, knowing that the fire of hell is painful. Those who have the desire to meet the Lord, do not commit sins, for they will lose the Vision of the Lord. The one who is in search of Mawlaa, in his mind the fear (of separation) is stronger than the fear of hell.

Great fortune is with him who has the love for the company of the Creator. He leaves (the results or problems of) all his worldly and religious work up to Him, such is the behaviour of a true believer. Life, body, sons and daughters, all these are given to you by the Lord. Unlock your hearts and submit that house to Him, at the feet of the one who has created this world.(i.e. submit yourselves completely to the will of the Creator)

jo duneeyaa kaarann par ba(n)dagee kare, to kharaab hove usakee jee(n)dagee.......199

Great wealth has been achieved by anyone who has been obedient to his creator. Your life and your livelihood, of all these He is the King. The one who gives and takes life and gives food, perform His servanthood. If one performs servanthood of others, for the sake of the world, then his life will be defiled.

behest paayaa to kayaa baddaaee, purakh beenaa jeeyu(n) orat....200

Perform pure servanthood of God, do not desire even the weight of simsim seed. Pure servanthood unites one with God, and he happily attains the Lord's Vision. If one desires anything, he may attain it through God, but know that this desire is a temptation. If one attains paradise(without the Lord) then what is so great about it?
It is like a woman without a husband.

A believer has abundant wealth, if he has attained merit or special skill. Know that great merit is attained when a person abandons infidelity and comes into the fold of Islam. A person loses his entire life converting copper into gold and learns about this skill from an expert(and in the process forgets his main purpose). In a moment an enemy of God becomes a friend, such is the (Divine) skill of Hazarat Aly's son(progeny).

aulee-aa khudaaekee baataa karo, to rahemat hove naazeel;

to pa(n)jatan rabane paak kee-e, peer hove jo unakee aal;
jo rahemat rabakee aap upar chaaho, to naam unakaa le-o har haal...........202

Talk about the vicegerant of God(the Prophet and his progeny), then Mercy will descend. The one who destroyed infidelity and awakened religion (in mankind), is indeed the perfect leader of all vicegerants (the seal of the prophets). Then the Lord purified his four close relatives and himself(panjtan paak), and the peers are their progeny. If you desire mercy of the Lord to descend upon you, then recite their name under any circumstance.

jo deel saaf hove to neet utth ba(n)dagee chaave nek kamaaee;
haraam khaanne jutth bolannese na karo eemaan a(n)dheraa, to paa-o deel safaaee...............203

The purity of the heart is derived from faith. The one who has perfect faith, his mind does not have any falsehood nor enmity, he is not the doer of evil. If the heart is pure, then he desires to rise up everyday and perform servanthood and pure deeds. By unlawful consumption, speaking lies do not darken your faith, then you will have cleanliness of the heart.

aachhee ba(n)dagee soee jaanno, jo kare aachhaa khaasaa nek kaam;

to sab deel mee(n)ne hae seerjanhaar, so tuj ghattme(n) kare roshan nur......204

Know the pure servanthood in truth as that in which a person does pure work. To the poor, the orphans and the disabled, be kind and generous, then your name will be dignified. Through goodness keep every heart happy, and remove all evil and ignorance. Then because in all hearts the Creator is present, He will enlighten your body as a reward.

e sunno samajo yaadaj raakho, farmaayaa shaahe maulaa murtaza alee........205

Firday night and Saturday, both mornings are of barakat. These are ideal times for travelling. Know both times as those of barakah, and are therefore suited for exalted work. Listen, understand and always remember this. This is commanded by the Lord, Mawla Murtaza Aly.

sab ba(n)deku(n) laajam hae jo karanaa khaalak apanekee eebaadat;

baddee ba(n)dagee nekee ye hae, na aap ra(n)jan keesaku(n) ra(n)jaan.......206

It is compulsory upon every creature to perform servanthood of his Creator, make everyone happy and form a habit of being sweet and pure. To talk too much about meaningless matters, does harm to your servanthood. The greater servanthood and virtue is that when one is not himself unhappy and does not inflict harm on others.

The one who delays in performing prayers, is deficient in his Faith. In this world many have fallen into temptation and have abandoned the work of hereafter. The one who delays in performing his prayer and servanthood and instead involves himself in worldly work, has no Faith upon the One whose creature you are.

baddee fazar jaage ne ba(n)dagee kare, to tu(n) nekee kamaayaa;
jo ees vellaa-e jaagyaa, so ba(n)dageese nekee paayaa;

The one who remains awake in the early hours of the morning and performs his servanthood, has indeed earned for himself purity. If he remains awake at this time, he has attained through servanthood purity. Remain awake at the early hours of the morning brothers, perform the remembrance of God. Through prayers, rosary (remembrance), and servanthood the heart is purified.

jo namaaz ba(n)dagee hakakee kare, so utthe beech a(n)dheree raen;

If one performs prayers and servanthood of the Truth, and wakes up in the middle of the dark night, through this servanthood and prayer he overcomes the effects of the five evils(i.e, lust, anger, greed, pride and attraction for the world), for the five evils are debtors. By performing prayer at night, he enlightens his heart and through that light he is inspired to such action, that will never attract the wrath of the Lord.

aachhee ba(n)dagee eebaadat vae, jo sabsu(n) chhupaa kar karee-e;

jo khudaae kaarann kaam karee-e, to dargaahme(n) hove kabul tamaam.......164

The perfect servanthood and spiritual discipline is that which is performed without anyone's knowing, do not let any creature know about it and fear your God. Perform pure servanthood for sake of God and not for glorification of your name. If work is performed for the sake of God, then it will be accepted in His presence.

jeene umaroho la(m)bee paaee, or saaree umar raen deen ba(n)dagee keetee allaah;

to jo koee chalannee unu(n)kee chale, so makabul hove rab darbaar.............165

Those who have attained advanced age and have spent their entire lives day and night in servanthood to God, have attained the attributes of the prophets from head to feet, these servants have gained all. The Lord bestowed greatness upon the prophets so that they could exercise leadership upon the entire community. Then those who follow their footsteps, they are accepted in the Lord's festive gathering(darbaar).

dunee-aa baazaarme(n) koee kamaayaa, keene pu(n)jee aap gamaaee.166

If in the past you have not done anything worthwhile, then for the hereafter do it quickly. Part of your life has gone by, what remains will go, why are you asleep in deep dream? Observe life, it passes by, take heed and do pure deeds. In the market of the world, some gain, others lose their capital.

roshan kar bhaaee kabar teree, ke neet utth namaaz kar beech raen a(n)dheree;

maulaa farmaave ke kabar teree, ees namaazse sahee roshan hoy...167

Enlighten your grave, brother, wake up always and perform prayers in the middle of the dark night. In the dark night, having performed your prayer, your grave will truly be enlightened. Perform your prayer and servanthood in the middle of the night in such a manner that besides God, nobody else knows. Hazarat Aly(Mawlaa) says that your grave, by such prayer, is truly enlightened.

On the face of a believer(momin), there is more light(Noor); if in the middle of the night he wakes up to gain profit. The night's servanthood shows during the day, for the face of the one who practices is enlightened. On the Day of Judgement(Qiyaamaa), some faces will be black, other faces will be white. Those who have performed servanthood at night, have attained their desire with True Conviction.

After each day there is night, during the day earn your living. At night sit restfully, remember Him whose creature you are. The people of the world say we work for the stomach, when can we sit and think of God? Mawlaa(Hazarat Aly) says, early when there is no work, remember God in the dark night.

The Messenger(rasul) attained the ascension(maeraaj) of God, he performed the true servanthood every night. This ascension is possible for a momin, if from his heart he removes all the dirt of the world. At night he stays up with concentration and follows the path of the Messenger to the Creator. Then this momin experiences the Ascension by virtue of his Lord's Vision (deedaar).

The status of night is great, the entire creation attains rest therein. Peers, Prophets, Friends and Saints, have through servanthood attained the Name. The Messenger also attained maeraaj(ascension) at night and the lover attains union with the Beloved. If you are a true lover, then do not miss the night's servanthood.

Within all hearts there is love, but the hearts that have the love for the Creator are better. Those who have loved other (than God), have sunk, but the love of the Lord is better for it enables you to cross over the limits. No heart is empty of love, without love, the heart remains sad. If you feel love for the True Lord, perform remembrance(zikr) upon every breath.

jo ek dam zeekar karanese(n) chukaa, to rab kare us upar gajab..173

The recipients of the Lord's mercy are those who perform remembrance(zikr) upon every breath. If for one breath, remembrance is missed, then happiness is not attained, pain is written. In the Lord's dwelling, are present those who perform remembrance upon every breath during their work. If for one breath zikr is missed, then the wrath of Lord will be upon them.

For the love of other than God, those who have emptied their hearts, have indeed removed from their hearts all the love for the world. Emptying the heart in this manner is better than filling the pockets. Better than too many possessions is that which breaks one's (worldly) desires of the mind.

If you desire paradise, take hold of piety, thereby you will remain pure of sin. For paradise is a place for the pure, where ashes of musk and amber are spread. You would not set your feet upon a rich man's house if your feet were covered with mud. Then at the Jeweller's(Lord's) residence where earth is perfumed, how could you enter such a paradise with the dirt of your sins?

takvaa karo khudaaesu(n) ddaro, ba(n)dagee karo jeeyu(n) hae farmaayaa;

Perform piety and fear God, perform servanthood as commanded(by the Imaam of the time). Knowing God as one, the one who has performed servanthood, has indeed attained a high status. Run away from the unlawful and consume that which is lawful, eat in a manner that is commanded. Also consume as lawful that which will be accounted as fair on the Day of accountability.

jo khof khudaaeke ddarse karo, to fale tumaaree nek kamaaee.....177

The crying of a man is real if he cries for the fear of God. Such crying will yield immense benefit and will cool your eyes. The one who cries for fear of God, will have his eyes cooled. If you fear God then your pure earnings will reap fruits.

The heart that is resided by the fear of God, is the heart that is always enlightened. The one who has enlightened his heart, the desire for the Vision(Deedaar) has reached him. The heart is the mirror of Deedaar, the one whose heart is enlightened is very fortunate. With fear of God, enlighten your hearts; why are you asleep, o negligent one, wake up.

Fear God, then you will remain in the midst of the ocean of peace. This fear will save you from all evil, it will be your protector. The one who fears God, acts according to His commands, and does not do anything else. He does not drink alcohol nor charges high interest. The why should the law keeper arrest him?

Vitality shows upon the face of a momin, if God's fear is in his heart. For fear of God, he does not perform evil and does pure actions always. The heart of a momin is a temple and inside it the fear of God is the lamp. The interior in which the lamp shines, that interior is revealed from outside as enlightened(from the face of a momin).

jees mee(n)darme(n) deevaa roshan, vae mee(n)dar deese sadaa ujaash;

The interior in which the lamp shines, is the interior which is always enlightened. In such an interior, the King comes and resides and all the thieves of despair leave. This interior remains prosperous in truth, and the person attains peace and happiness. The master and the servant both meet and seat therein, and the person enjoys happiness day and night.

To discharge off one's debt is also a religious deed. Never keep someone else's burden upon you. There are many religious deeds, but this is the greatest of all. This is said by the Lord of the saints, Hazarat Aly very early.

barakat hove maalme(n) usake, jo koee deve jakaat;

Prosperity is upon the wealth of the one who pays zakaat. Zakaat gives prosperity to wealth, know this as truth. Zakaat is 2.5% if given annually. Those who give it with Faith, their wealth becomes lawful.

to sab kaam hove khaasaa, or puge manakee aashaa................184

Rely upon God, then you will have done the most wholesome deed. If you desire to perform the most exalted deed, remember God always. If you perform any work, then live it to the Lord, and say: "whatever you will, is best". Then all your work will be meaningful and your wishes will be fulfilled.

Body, mind and (physical)life are nourished by food and drink. The soul is nourished by pure sound. The name of God and the sayings of the Lord, recite these and the Geenaans(wisdom and knowledge) with pure and sweet sound. Then your soul will be happy and the ego of the mind will be broken.

Befriend your religion, and love that which you have befriended. The best friend of all is religion, by which you will attain the entire abode(of paradise) quickly. Say your prayers, observe the fasts, and perform the entire servanthood as commanded. Alcoholism, excessive interest and all other prohibitions, abandon them, then you will attain the entire abode(of paradise) quickly.

jo aap heesaabthee adakaa lennaa, laalachse(n) sajaann hove ajaann.....187

If you desire the mysteries of your religion, then always rise up and perform more rites and rituals. The one who boards the boat of rites and rituals, is given a lot of merits by the ocean of religion. And the obstacle (on the path) of religion is from temptation, by temptation religion is ruined. If you take more through deception and cheating, then as a result of temptation, one who is aware and knowledgeable become blind and ignorant.

ke deen maannak to aap leve, chhodd deve dunee-aa pathar........188

Those who have fulfilled the purpose of both worlds, are the ones who have attained success in their religion. For the friendship of religion resides in the hearts of those who have abandoned the world and have taken up religion. Those who have the mercy of the Lord upon them, are inspired towards pure thinking. They acquire rubies of religion for themselves and discard the stones of the world.

deen maannak erfaan eelaahee, dunee-aa pathar dunee-aakee chaah;

jo deha ma(n)e panase haath utthaa-o, to baakee hae so rabakaa zahur........189

The jewel of religion is the Divine gnosis and the stone of the world is the love for the world. (Through this jewel) boons are derived for the fourteen levels, whereas the entire world will perish. God is beyond everything and whatever is spread is the Lord's light. If we free ourselves from the york of the body and the ego, then what remains is the revelation of the Lord.

The world is a place of suffering, all whom you see thus cry their eyes out. Unplug your ears from negligence so hear where these calls come from. The sawing on the wood and the pounding of the stone, why do these two make so much noise? In the flowing waters, what is this noise? Thus life goes by with flowing tears.

Misled is the one who rejoices in the world, as the thirsty one sees in the blazing sun that the whole jungle is filled with water. However what he sees is dust in the form of water. The whole world is dust, bury worldly goods, they too are dust. In this dust you see gold, silver and precious gems; it is your sight that is faulty.

Compared to thirst for water, know that thirst for possessions is more harmful. Thirst for possessions is not quenched, even for an instant. Thirst for water, we sometimes have but the one whose thirst is for possessions, wastes his whole life in this thirst. Never is his stomach full, even if he obtains all the goods in the world.

One aspires to be great because of wealth and shows off horses and elephants(symbols of wealth) to all. Such greatness is futile in both worlds, for it will not be with you in the hereafter. On the other hand, if one aspires to be great for the sake of truth, he has a basis of strong Imaan. He knows that Imaan is better than unbelief and retains such greatness everyday.

If anyone runs around after his wealth, and aspires for objects other than God, then his running around is misguided and he never reaches his real destiny. Do not keep your hopes and reliance on any creature. A creature follows the object of his reliance, just as the shadow of a man follows him. As soon as the man enters the house the shadow disappears.

There is a great deal of sadness for the one who has great hopes and desires for the world. His hopes and desires will not be fulfilled, even after the black hair have been transformed to white. The sadness and worries of the world whiten the hair. He will have transformed his white(good) deeds to black(fruitless) ones. In this world you have only come to satisfy the needs of your stomach , such is the product of your (corrupt) intelligence.

Unfruitful and futile is the deal, in which a person sells off his religion. He gives away gold of religion and obtains the false world which is as good as dust. Such are the works done by those whose bosoms(hearts) have been darkened. For they have sold gold and silver and have bought futile objects.

Sell the world, it is perishable and buy the dwelling of the hereafter. The world will not remain with you, and all worthwhile is in the abode of hereafter. The world lasts four days, take heed, you will leave it; sell it and dwell in (the awareness of) the hereafter, this will be useful to you.

Good fortune is in the love for the hereafter, but the one who is in love for the world experiences bad fortune. For the world is loved by the unfortunate ones, whereas the fortunate ones love the hereafter. The ones with good fortune have good intelligence, and the desire for the hereafter wherein they dwell for ever. The unfortunate ones desire the world which they leave upon death and which is therefore never of any use.

Worldly boons are surpassed by the benefits of the hereafter. The hereafter will remain for ever, whereas the world will perish quickly. If God has given you intelligence, do not love the world. For to make a dwelling in a place that you must leave eventually, is to behave like a fool.

A faithful woman is the one who loves her husband a great deal. Then her children will be fortunate and noble. But this worldly woman is very unfaithful, she has never maintained one master. She leaves one in a moment and has a relationship with another. Foolish are the ones who are hypnotised by this woman(world).

The ones who have amassed their wealth and have not tasted good use of it (spent it for a good cause or for innocent pleasures), will rub their hands(in regret), just like honey not consumed by bees. Look at the bees rubbing their hands constantly! Take heed brothers, the world will not accompany you. Therefore why don't you engage in activities that will yield benefits for the hereafter? O foolish ones, why do you waste your life.

Never is happiness present in those whose hearts are filled with the love for the world. Through love for the world, one becomes blind and the blindness gradually increases and does not become less. Empty your hearts from the love of the world, and reduce the love of the companionship of the world. The ones whose hearts are filled with the love for the world, the religion will slip away from their hands for certain.

Know the evil action as that which is close to evil. A person who steals and charges heavy interest, consumes alcohol - these are evil for certain. And his vision is blurred by the love for the world and money. Both worlds become evil from such wealth, and they yield evil dwellings immediately.

The (virtuous) one sees evil as those objects(of vanity) that come into view of the entire world. The objects by which work is always ruined, are kept aloof from his heart. But sweet is the name of the Creator, the one who remembers it upon every breath is indeed a real faithful. When one is never filled or bored by the recitation of the name of truth, it is the sign of being a true Imaanee (faithful).

buraa vae jo haraam kamaave mottaa keelaave, sharamee(n)daa hoysee rab hajur..........146

The one who knows evil action is he who is remote from religious law(Shariah). He who steals, lives on (excessive) interest and consumes alcohol, does not radiate light on his face. The one not to be regarded as evil is he who lives on lawfully earned income, he is called a labourer by others. The evil one is he who earns his livelihood unlawfully and calls himself big(one with high status), he will be disgraced in front of the Lord.

A man's stomach is his enemy, observe this and take heed quickly. Because of the temptation of the stomach, he does a great deal of evil work. The stomach makes a man do evil work in this world. For the sake of the stomach all the valuable mysteries of the hereafter slip away from the creature.

If one has empty hands, is hungry and has family to look after; is engaged in many activities (for livelihood), and his condition is in turmoil. These matters are told to you by Mawla(Hazarat Aly), listen to them and keep them in all your minds. The hungry one does get involved in a lot of activities, and therefore peace alludes his mind and body.

Very fortunate is the one who does not have children in this world to look after. He will not have concerns about what his children will eat. When there are no worldly concerns in a person's heart, his heart is filled by the remembrance of the Lord. The world and religion cannot be together(in one mind) just like two swords cannot be in one sheath.

If you want happiness and rest, then rest exists where there is no fear. In this world we have great tribulations, how can there be rest in this world. One day in joy we play the drum, another day someone dies, there is sorrow. Better happiness is that of the hereafter, day after day it increases and does not wane.

If a son separates from his mother and father, it becomes a cause of intense agony. The livers of the mother and father burn in agony, and there is no cure for such a fire. If the son predeceases his parents, then there is great pain for the parents. The livers burn and tears flow in the eyes, they are only freed from this agony at the arrival of physical death.

A man desires the entire world in his mind, wherein there are unlimited boons and of various kinds. Even if the heart desires, how can it be possible to achieve everything, the whole world cannot be attained. The hopes of the heart are fulfilled when one abandons worldly hopes and becomes despondent. When one gives up hope and reliance on others he attains great comfort. Give up hope on others, thereby you will attain all hope, i.e. you will attain reliance of the Almighty.

The restfulness of life lies in being desire less. If you desire too much(of the world), you will not be at rest. Abandon all hopes, then your life and body will be at rest. For the companionship of the world will never be yours.

The one in whose possession has come art and industry, and earns his livelihood utilizing them, has indeed attained a great deal of treasury and has attained limitless wealth. A well full of jewellery will eventually get exhausted but art and industry is a greater treasure, it is like a lake which never gets exhausted.

In the friendship of the world there is a great deal of fault, but those who are tempted by it cannot perceive it. Such is the fault in those who understand foolishly and are blind to reality. It does not take too long for your friend the world to leave you. Sometimes the worldly person lives( a long life) and his friend (the world) leaves, sometimes the friend lives and the worldly person dies.

If you engage in any worldly activity think: "In what manner can I rely upon it? What good will I achieve from this activity to which I am attached in love?" The work that will not have any losses or the work which is profitable is to be undertaken. (If that is the case) then there is no (real and enduring) profit in worldly work. This is the truth which I tell you brother, listen!

Watch the world go by, it is a two-day Spring. Kings, fakirs, the lesser and the greater; no one is at peace therein. Take heed and remember this, o momin brothers. As long as the signs of Autumn do not come, till then, water with true servanthood. Then the garden of your life will always blossom.

The misguided are the ones who reveal the inner mysteries to the wrong people. For, the wrong people will spread falsehood which will be of no use. Do not reveal your inner life to the wrong people. The wrong ones are those whose hearts are evil. Try to understand this short advice, proceed along the path which is fulfilling.

gumraah huaa vae, jeene deenathee duneeyaaku(n) adakaa chaahyaa;

to vae sahee gumaraah huaa, jeene duneeyaa kaarann aakabat gamaaee.........159

The misguided are the ones who have loved the world more than religion. For, while doing worldly work, they have lost the work of religion. At first the world was created for you so that you work towards the hereafter. So those are truly misguided who for the sake of the world have lost the hereafter.

pann jeeskaa seenaa a(n)dhaa eelaaj nahee, jo feer kar aave lukmaan............160

Leave alone those who are misguided in their misguidedness, there is no cure for them. The ones whom god has made misguided, will not attain the Right Path. The blindness of the eyes can be cured and health is restored, but for the one whose bosom(heart) is blind, there is no cure, even if the (greatest physician) lukman returns.

mulak baadshaahee kaayam raheve, jo adal kare sultaan;
jo baadshaahne adal chhoddaa, to baadshaahee huee vaeraan;
adalse(n)thee gareebee vase, suno bhaaee gharbaaree;
adalsethee thoddee ghannee, vase duneeyaa saaree................121

The regime of a kingdom will remain lasting(stable) if the king is just. If the king abandons justice, the regime will collapse. Through justice poverty(humility) will prevail, listen o householder brothers. Through justice, little will be more and everybody in the world will live(satisfied).

us baadshaahkee dolat vaadhe, jo adal chalannee chaalaa;
jees baadshaahne adal chhoddaa, une aapkaa ghar ghaalaa;
mulak-kaa maalak to aap hae, saaheb seerjanhaar;
mulak le aadalku(n) deve, zaalam hove kho-aar...................122

The wealth of a king will increase if he conducts himself in a just manner. A king who abandons justice, has indeed ruined his home. The Lord, Creator Himself is the king of the kingdom. He entrusts the kingdom to be governed by justice, but if injustice is done, all is ruined.

aadal baadshaahkaa saahyaa aysaa, jaesaa saahyaa hae rabakaa;

ees kaayaa nagareeme(n) baadshaahee teree, aap upar kar adal saahyaa;
halaal haraam jo pahechhaan chalasee, to aaraam paaesee teree kaayaa......123

The shelter of a just king is like the shelter of the Lord. For under the shelter of a just king there is peace and comfort in in the hearts of all creatures. In this bodily city you are the king, maintain a shelter of justice over yourself. In you proceed with an understanding of what is lawful and unlawful, your body will achieve peace.

aadal so jo aysaa samaje, ke ye khalakat sab hae rabakee;

to aabaad hove mulak usakaa, deel par roshan hove rabakaa nur...124

A just one is he/she who understands that this world entirely belongs to the Lord. Therefore he/she does not hurt the feelings of others and retains love for everyone in his/her heart. The satanic obstacles are thieves, so he/she dispels them from the heart's kingdom. Then his/her kingdom becomes prosperous and his/her heart is enlightened by the Nur of the Lord.

baadshaahkaa zulam bhalaa hae, raeeyatke parape(n)chse(n)thee;

jo kare to bee bhalaa usathee, ke jo paa(n)ch tuje meelkar kare kharaab....125

The injustice of the king is better than the manoeuvres of the people. One committed by the king is regarded as little, but when people perform manoeuvres they are regarded as large. Your tongue is where the king is seated. He does not inflict punishment upon you. Even if he does, it is better than the five(vices) meeting you and performing evil.

***** This verse to be clarified.

hak baat sun kabul karanee, yeh bee hae deen neeshaanee;

Listening to the truth and accepting it is indeed the sign of religion. This is the case whether an enemy or a friend or any human tells it to you. He has thrown upon you a useful weapon. Handle this weapon carefully. Listen to the truth and accept it in your mind. Do not consider the status of the speaker.

Miseries and negligence of the heart result from overeating. By overeating knowledge and wisdom decreases, and intelligence and awareness leaves you. Brother, without eating one cannot live, but form a habit of eating less. How can you consume that which is unlawful? By such consumption one cannot perform the Lord's service (ibaadat).

baadshaahu(n)kaa khaannaa hotth jeelaave, samaj hoe so sheekhaa;

The food of the king excites the lips, if this understanding is there, then one has indeed learned. The heart does not become fresh by it. The lip knows what is sour, sweet or hot. By consuming lawful food, the heart is refreshed. The lawful food is sweet. The one who has consumed lawfully earned food, has tasted untold delights.

deelakee roshanee hae halaal khaannese, cheto bhaaee karo aahaar halaal;

The enlightenment of the heart comes from lawful consumption, therefore brothers, be heedful and consume what is lawful. The Imaan(Faith) and heart is blinded of the one who consumes unlawful property. In this body the Divine Lamp is the heart. If this lamp is extinguished, your Imaan will be at a loss. When the bodily city is darkened thus, nothing worthwhile can happen and the five thieves i.e., lust, anger, greed, pride and temptation will come and meet from all directions and loot away everything worthwhile.

The one who has been graced with a high status, is in control of many people of the world. It is therefore necessary for him to exercise fairness and justice, he should not harm anyone's feelings. As a result his status will increase and everybody will be obedient to his commands. Through fairness and justice, he achieves honour and respect. This is said by the Divine Rider of the horse DUL DUL.

zulamke a(n)dheresethee bujo eemaanbee hoy a(n)dheraa;

zulam par upar kare, ke gunaah kare zulam upar aap;
to donu(n) zulamse(n)thee jaanno, ghatte tere eemaankaa prataap.109

The darkness of injustice envelops one's faith in total darkness. Do not be unjust, brother. Then your faith will be enlightened. When you are unjust to others, you commit a sin against them and against your own self. Know that both acts of injustice diminish the light of your faith.

zulam maradakaa us maradaku(n) aysaa ddaale, jo feer kar utthnaa hove mushkeel;

e sab jakham cha(n)gaa hove, na hove cha(n)gaa jeesku(n) maare usakaa keeyaa...110

The injustice of a man brings downfall upon him to the extent that it becomes difficult for him to rise up again. A wound from a sword may be healed but the wound from evil action will not be healed. One may get burnt by fire, mauled by a tiger, or even injured by an elephant. All these injuries may be redressed but the damage done to oneself by one's own bad actions is irreversible.

zaalamkee umarohokaa saahyaa chhottaa, bahot deen nahee vahe tthahersee;

zulamse(n)thee zaalamkaa ghar dekho, bohot deen so naa vase;
mazalumthee vae aagal mare, mazalum baetthaa us upar hase.......111

The life of an unjust person is short, he will not prevail for too long. Whoever has done injustice will die due to the sighs from his victims(or will be constantly pursued by them). Observe the house(universe) of the unjust one derived unjustly. He cannot inhabit it for too long. He dies before his victims and they laugh upon him.

zulam karte ddaro bhaaee, zulamse(n)thee na jeetaa koee;
jees upar zulam vae to tthahersee, jo hae jaalam pahelaa mare soee;
jees keesee upar julam hove, khaalak usakee deve daad;
hak keeseekaa jaayaa na jaaysee, rab sabakee sune fareeyaad.....112

Be fearful of performing unjust deeds for no one has achieved anything from injustice. Those upon whom injustice is done will prevail but the unjust will in truth die first. Those upon whom injustice is done, the Creator pays attention to them. The apparently lost rights(due to injustice) will not be lost for ever as the Lord listens to the complaints of all.

zulam zaalamkaa us zaalamku(n), khe(n)ch le chale halaakee taraf;
zulamthee vae halaak hove, e sahee kar maano shaahkaa haraf;
bhaaee adal chaalo zulam chhoddo, par dukh denese aap tan vaar;
par dukh deve so aap dukh paave, e farmaayaa shaah dul dul asvaar..........113

The injustice of the unjust one drags him towards destruction. By injustice he is eventually destroyed. Believe these words of the Lord as the Truth. Brothers, proceed in justice and avoid injustice. By harming others your own body will be harmed. The one who inflicts harm on others, is himself harmed. This is commanded by the Divine Rider of the horse "Dul dul"(Hazarat Aly).

zulamthee aakhar buraaee hove, zulam kuchh na paaesee khayer;
ke zaalam upar hae lyaanat khudaakee, us upar na hotee hae rabakee maher;
jo beej bove so fal paave, aam bove to fale aam;
aamlee bove to aamlee fale, jo amal kare so aave kaam...........114

Injustice eventually leads to evil, through injustice one cannot achieve any good. For the curse of God is upon an unjust one. Upon him there is no mercy of the Lord. Whatever you sow, so shall you reap. If you plant a mango you will reap a mango. If you plant tamarind(aamlee), you will reap tamarind. Whatever good you do will help you.

zaalamku(n) to aazaab ye hae, jo zaalam sheetaabee mare;
duneeyaa sheetaabee chhodd jaave, jees kaarann vae zulam kare;
haath ghasa(n)taa zaalam jaave, ke haay me(n) kaayku(n) zulam keeyaa;
jees kaarann keeyaa so chhodd jaataa hu(n), ab to dukh paaesee meraa jeeyaa............115

The curse upon an unjust one is that he dies prematurely. He leaves this world unfulfilled as all his unjust actions will have gone wasted. The unjust one rubs his hands(in regret) asking himself: "Why did I perform injustice? What will I leave behind as a result these actions, my soul will suffer as a result."

buraa hae vae aadamee ke jeesase(n), ddarte hae sab aadamee aap man;
ke bhalaa buraa sab usathee ddare, jeesakaa hove zulam lachhan;
jeesase(n) sab ddare vae buraa keelaave, ke vae to khudaaesu(n) nahee ddarataa;
to jeesase sab ddare so hae buraa, aysaa kaam kaayku(n) karataa.116

The evil one is he who is feared by all the people in their minds. All the good and evil are afraid of he who has unjust character. The one who is feared by everyone is called an evil person, the one who does not fear God. The one who is feared by all is called an evil person. Then why perform such work?

najadeek na rahenaa tthagan lokaa(n)ke, ke jeenune buraa kasab lee-aa;
zee-aan kare unu paas na rahenaa, jo rahyaa usaku(n) zee-aan kee-aa;
rahee-e nek paaddosh dekhee, ke gunaah na kare rabakaa na aadamkaa;
ke gunaahgaar paaddoshse hae balaa aatee, chhoddo paaddosh zaalamkaa.........117

Do not reside near the deceitful ones, the ones who have adopted an evil lifestyle. Do not reside near the ones who cause harm. They inflict harm upon their neighbours. Choose pure and good neighbours, the ones who abstain from performing sins against the Lord and the people. For the sinful neighbours are a great trouble. Therefore keep away from unjust neighbours.

jo katthann hove ne kaddavaa bole, usakee to khoho naapaak;
esee khoho(n)sethee sahee bujo, ke vae aakhar hove halaak;
katthann honaa or kaddavaa kahennaa, esee khoho na sheekho bhaaee;
e naseehat yaadaj raakho, maulaane farmaaee.....................118

The person who is hard by nature and talks bitter, has impure habits. Know that people of such habits are ultimately ruined. To be hard by nature and to talk bitterly are habits that are not to be learned. Remember this advice, commands Mawla(Hazarat Aly).

khaanekee kaddavaaee khattaaee dekho, jaesee man na bhaave;
e to bhalee hae us khattaaeese(n)thee, jo khattaaee bolaneme(n) aave;
e suno sheekho yaadaj raakho, bolanese na karo keeseekaa deel khattaa;
duneeyaame(n) vohee tofeek paayaa, jo meetthaa bolaa na bolaa kaddavaa khattaa..119

Observe the bitterness of food which is detested by the mind. This bitterness(of food) is better than the bitterness of speech. Listen, learn and remember this, do not embitter anyone's heart by (bitter) speech. People who have achieved prosperity and success in this world are the ones who have spoken sweet and have not spoken bitter.

halakaa karanhaar maradaku(n) sahee hae, uske deelkee sakhtee jaan;
jo koee sab saathe sakhtee kare, to us saathe bee sab sakhtee kare peechhaan;
to jees saathe sab sakhtee kare, vae to aakhar halaak hove sahee;
to sakhtee keesee sa(n)g na karee-e, e khaasee naseehat maulaane kahee..........120

A destructive person in truth is the one who has a hard(harsh) heart. The one who is harsh upon everyone, know that he will be treated in a harsh manner by everyone. And the one who is treated harshly by everyone will be ruined ultimately. Therefore do not be harsh on anyone. This best advice is given by Mawla(Hazarat Aly).

The leader of the community(ummah) is the one who knows the mysteries of religion. He shows the path of Truth to the creation and realises the difference between the true and the false. The leader of a group is the one who has been blessed with complete knowledge of religion. He is the guardian of the group. But the ones without knowledge are regarded as animals.

deen meene rukhanaa padde, jo aalam sab mar jaae;
sama(n)dar meene hae beddee, so malaah beena kon lagaae;
keetaab bhejee-aa rabane, aalam kare beechaar;
jo murakh haath maannek padde, to khote na laage vaar............87

In religion, importance of the learned is only realised when they all die. In the ocean there is a ship which cannot be steered without a captain. (In the same manner, the learned steer the community). The Lord has sent down the scriptures which are studied by the learned. But if rubies are given to fools(who do not realise their value), they will soon get lost.

eelam jaave jo mar jaae, je koee hae elam paddaa;

to samajo mukh paatt veedhyaathee e bhalaa, jeesake seene geenaan deeyaa keelataar.................................................88

Ilm(knowledge) goes when a learned person dies. A learned person can revive knowledge in those who have understanding. But it is very difficult to impart knowledge to those who do not have any inclination for knowledge in their hearts. Understand that a person upon whom the Creator has blessed with knowledge in his heart, is better than a scholar of rote.

aalam maratabaa jaahel upar, jeeyu(n) chaa(n)d badar ne sahu taare;

jaahel path-thar dareeyaa paetthaa, vae aap ddube or saathee sab ddubaave.........................................................89

A learned person is at a higher level than an ignorant(and shines out amongst the people), just as the Moon outshines the stars. Although the full moon is outnumbered by stars, yet it outshines them in the sky. A learned person is like an adept swimmer, he swims himself across the ocean(of material existence) and takes others along with him. The ignoramus on the other end are like stones in the ocean. They sink themselves in the ocean, and sink others along with them.

kuraan padde deel roshan hove, momeen deel bahot hove sukh;
bahot kuraan padde to laalach ghatte, ke laalach deelaku(n) baddaa hae dukh;

The heart of the person who reads the Holy Qur'aan is enlightened, and such a momin's heart attains peace. By reading the Holy Quran frequently, the worldly temptations are reduced, for temptations are the cause of great unhappiness to the heart. Recite the Holy Quraan if you know how to, else listen to the sayings of the Lord. And if you do not get an opportunity to listen to them, recite the name of the Prophet of God always.

kalaam khudaaekaa hae deelakee daaru, kalaam paddese deel sahee hove cha(n)gaa;

bhaaee sab daradakee daaru leekhee, pann deelake daradkee daaru hae yeha;
kalaam khudaa-ekaa yaad karo neet paddo, jeeyu(n) tum deel vase rabakaa neh......................................................91

The sayings of God are a healing of the heart. By reciting the sayings, the heart becomes joyous and pure. The heart becomes totally immersed in Light, and it's sinful darkness is dispelled. O brother, there is a healing for every illness, that of the heart lies in this(i.e remembrance of His words). Remember the sayings of God and recite them daily and His love will possess your heart.

jo paddo so yaadaj raakho, keetaab leekhyaa so rahyaa beech keetaab;

yaad vae jo tum deel vase, jeebhakaa bolanaa sab bhul jaaesee;
jees deel eemaan so chhutte, been deel jeebh eemaan so dozhakh paaesee..........................................................92

Remember well what you read, for that which is written remains in a book. When you are asked a question, you can only reply what you remember. You will remember that which is in your heart and forget that which is on your tongue. He who has faith in his heart attains freedom but he whose faith is professed by tongue alone is destined for hell.

ke aalam jaesaa dudh khaasaa, use beegaddate na laage vaar.......93

A minor sin committed by a learned man is grave. How can he commit a wrong as he guides others to the Right Path? A man of understanding must be cautious against committing even an atom's weight of sin; for a learned man is like pure milk: it could go bad very quickly.

aalam aap elam vakhaanne, or elam upar kare baddaaee;

to donu jahaanme(n) aap rahemaan, bujo raakhe usakee sharam......94

A man who praises his knowledge and boasts of it with pride, succeeds only in putting it to shame; he does not, in reality, gain any status. A person with true knowledge is aware how little he knows. Know that the Lord will maintain the modesty of such a person in both the worlds.

aap mashahur honeke kapadde pahene, or baddee baa(n)dhe paagaa;

In order to make themselves renowned, some people wear clothing which attract attention and put on turbans. Over the turbans they attach tussles and make their bodies attractive. Others adopt the dressing of the poor(darvishes) and cloth themselves always like them. In all this, the main point is pride of the mind, that I am such and such.

Haughtiness of a man is that he boasts about his knowledge. Much better than putting on a turban is to say:" my father was such a great man". But the one who has enlightened his heart through the inner mysteries of knowledge has indeed overcome the Great Day(Mahadan). On this day your father and brother will run away from you, even your son and spouse will not be available.

The Divine grace is on the person who is conscious of and devoted to Him; becoming a learned he performs pious deeds. Others learn from him and go on the Right Path. He is to them an ocean of knowledge and wisdom, a guide who walks on the Straight Path and leads others on it. He is a wise and learned man who performs his own duty and makes others do likewise.

A congregation of elderly devotees is like a fort; whatever is spoken should remain within it's walls. Words spoken in a mijlas of devotees should not be repeated outside. Be mindful of this advice given to you by the Lord of (spiritual) mysteries.

jo hove sab eelam-me(n) kaamal, to been peechhaane naa kaheve baat;

He who has attained perfection in knowledge, speaks [about it] only when he is asked. Do not speak of your (inner) attainment to anyone when God graces you with His essence. Listen to this advice and remember it: do not speak of your (spiritual) realisation to anyone. That inner secret is precious like diamonds and rubies, do not give it away to a foolish man.

ek nufataa ma-aarafat keraa, usaku(n) koee na paho(n)che amal;

Nothing in the world matches an iota of gnosis(ma'rifa). Whoever has this (understanding), his faith remains unshaken. Without it, his talk is devoid of vision. Objects become an end in themselves and their essence is lost. Fire, stones, water, the moon, people, man - he speaks of them without (inner) knowledge.

ek nukataa jo maarafat keraa, mursheed jeesaku(n) batalaave;
so vaasal hove jaat hakame(n), asal apaneku(n) paave;
jeene deelase khoyaa ees nukteku(n), une khoyaa apane rabaku(n);

To whomsoever the Master shows even an iota of knowledge of Allah (Ma'rifah), his inner self realises the Truth and attains its origin. But the one who loses this knowledge in his heart has indeed lost his Lord. Listen to this advice, understand it and always ponder upon it. The mawla(Hazarat Aly) commends this of everybody.

maratabaa eelam keraa, sab hun-nar upar hae aalaa;
ke eelamse to rab pahechhaanaa, jeene apanaa deel ujaalaa;
or hun-nar kamaaee sab fanaa hove, pahechhaan khudaakee raheve baakee;
e sunno samajo yaadaj raakho, farmaayaa kausare saakee..........102

The status of knowledge is such that it is higher than all other merits. For through ilm(knowledge), the one who has enlightened his heart, knows the Lord. All other merits that are earned will perish, but the knowledge and recognition of God will remain. Listen to this advice, understand it and remember it - so commands the cup-bearer of Kawthar(Hazarat Aly - provider of spiritual water at kawthar).

jo jo hun-nar duneeyaa keraa, so aakhar sab hae baatal;
hak beenaa jo or hun-nar hae, usakaa deelase honaa kaatal;
khudaa vaahed laa shareek hae, mahamad banee hae khudaakaa rasul;
nur zahur sab usakaa deesataa, jo samajeeyaa so huaa makabul....103

If the merits are worldly, they will be rejected in the hereafter. If there are other merits besides the truth in a person, these will be rendered dead by his heart. God is one and He has no partners, Muhammed is God's messenger. The entire light is manifest through him(the Messenger). Those who have understood this have been accepted.

eelam baadshaahee jeene paaee, sadaa rahesee, nahee aave use khott;

If mastery of knowledge is attained, it is there to stay for ever, this person is never at a loss. Other possessions can be stolen, but the possession of knowledge can never be stolen. The wealth that you accumulate in this world is left here, but the wealth of knowledge will accompany you (to the hereafter) and causes you to enter Paradise.

sab cheejku(n) ek maratabaa kaamal hae, jeesku(n) kahee-e puraa pur;

ke jo puchhe use yehee deen bataave, haleemee beenaa na hove kaam.........105

All things have a state of accomplishment which we recognise as such. Knowledge attains perfection when Light shines upon a humble scholar. When a learned man ('alim) becomes humble, his learning is completed. He answers questions(without arrogance) and teaches this religion to those who ask him. There is no success without humility.

eelam majalasme(n) aysaa meelanaa, jeeyu sak-kar meelatee hae sa(n)g dudh;

jo re-an deen meelo eelam majalasme(n), to bhed mursheed batalaave...............106

Come together to gain knowledge and meet(in such a way) as the sugar candy dissolving in milk. When you immerse yourself in knowledge, you will realise the goal of your heart. The secret of "man 'arafa"(meaning - those who realise) is the knowledge which you will attain through the perfect Peer(Guide). The Guide (murshid) will unravel the mysteries if you meet daily in the assembly of 'ilm.

eelamkee majalas to aesee bhaaee, jaesee hae bahest keree vaaddee;

O brother, an assembly (mijlas) in pursuit of knowledge is like a garden in Paradise. If you want to be in Paradise on earth, then attend daily in such an assembly. Paradise is the place for the pure, keep pure if you desire it. How could you become pure without knowledge - so commands the cup-bearer of Kawthar(Hazarat Aly).

eelam maratabaa dareeyaa jaysaa, jeesakaa vaar na paar;

Knowledge is like a vast ocean without shores, its depth is limitless, containing innumerable and infinite objects. Know, my friend, that a person who dives in it, submerging his self fully, will acquire precious stones and bring pearls to the surface.

I. Dastaan Jaahelu(n)kaa or Bevkufeeka - Ignoramus and Fools

jaahelu(n) keereeyaa so adakee kare, unaku(n) gumaraahee;
vae aap bee ddubaa or saathee ddubaave, jeenaku(n) une keereeyaa sheekhaaee;
jaahel halaalku(n) haraam kaheve, or paak-ku(n) kaheve naapaak;
esee reet keereeyaa kare, aapkaa deen meelaave khaak.............76

The ignoramus are involved in a lot of (wrongful)activities, being misguided. They have sunk themselves and have sunk others whom they have misguided, along with them. The ignoramus regard the lawful as unlawful and regard the pure as impure. In this manner they carry out their activities and render their religion worthless as dust.

jaahel vae jeese eelam naahee, usakaa hae paradaa chup rahen maa(n)hee;
jo bole nahee to hae jaahel, pann usakee jaahelee koee jaanne naahi;
jaahel vae jeese nahee ma-aarafat, been peechhaanekee vae kaheve baat;
tab leekhanevaale feeraste leekhe, ke ma-aarafat nahee eesakee zhaat;.........77

The ignoramus are the ones who do not have any (divine)knowledge, for them it is a veil in remaining silent. If they do not speak(about divine knowledge), it is because they are ignorant. But no one knows their ignorance. The ignoramus are those who do not have gnostic knowledge(maarifah, gnaan) and talk about matters unknown to them. Then the judging angels take account of the fact that they do not have gnostic knowledge.

akalma(n)d laddakaa bhalaa usathee, ke jo jaahel hove buhuddaa;
ke akalma(n)d laddakaa dareeyaa paar jaave, jaaher buhuddaa so sahee ddubaa;
akalma(n)d vae jeese ma-aarafat hove, jaahel vae jeese nahee pahechhaan;
rab daragaahme(n) baddaa nahee maal or umaro ho, vaahaa(n) baddaa vae jo hove sujaan.........78

An intelligent(wise) young boy is better than an ignorant elder, for the young wise one will get across the ocean whereas the ignorant elder has in truth sunk. The intelligent one is the one who has gnostic knowledge(maarifah, gnaan) whereas the ignorant one has no awareness of it. In the house of the Lord, age and wealth do not matter; there the status depends upon the level of intelligence one has.

jees mulak-kaa baadshaah ahamak hove, vae mulak sheetaabee jaae;
koee chheen leve yaa ujaadd hove, har tarehase badee deekhaa-e;
tuj ghattame(n) tu(n) hae baadshaah, ahamak jo maane manakaa kahyaa;
to paap lobh aav tuj ghatt baetthe, to e mulak tere haathse gayaa..79

A kingdom which has a greedy and lusty king is doomed. There is mass deprivation and devastation and everywhere evil is seen. You are the king within your bodily kingdom. A greedy and lusty one is he who follows the (lower) mind. If sin and greed take seat in your body, then you will lose this kingdom.

saachee baat naseehat sunate, jo tu(n) aap man gus-saa khaave;
to teraa gus-saa tu(n) jaann, ke tuj upar buraaee laave;
saachaa sudhaa jo koee kaheve, to gus-saa na karee-e apane man;
saachee baat sunate jo tu(n) gus-saa khaave, to tu(n) hae apane jeevkaa dushman..........80

When upon listening to a good advice, you become angry, then your anger will bring evil upon you. When someone tells you about purity and truth, then do not become angry. When upon listening to truthful discourse, you become angry, then you have become the enemy of your own soul.

jo u(n)dhaa samaje ne u(n)dhaa beechaare, jo kuchh une sunee-aa;
to motkee kaddavaaee bhar umar saakhee, sahee beech ees duneeyaa;
jo koee baat use bhalee kaheve, to vae jaanee ke ye hae buree baat;
bhaleeku(n) bee buree jaanne, aap deel kudde yu(n) deen raat.....81

When upon listening about anything(worthwhile), you understand it and think about it in an opposite manner, then the sourness of death will be your friend at old age, and it will be in this world. If anyone gives you good advice, you regard it as bad. If you regard good as bad, then your heart will remain evil day and night.

rejaalukee dolat jaanno, ke hae aafat loku(n) upar;
ke rejaalaa seer par haakem hove, usathee bhalaa sheer par ddu(n)gar;
ke ddu(n)garku(n) to boj ghanneraa, us neeche maree-e koee na jaanne;
ke rejaaleku(n) to boj nahee, sab aagal fazheehat kare rajaanne..82

If an ignorant person gets wealth, it becomes a danger upon others. If rulership is placed upon an ignorant one, it is better that a burden of a hill is placed upon his head instead. For a hill is very heavy and if one dies beneath it, no one knows. A stupid person cannot bear the burden of responsibility. He slanders others and inflicts hardship on them.

haakem honnekee mastee baddee, sharaab pee-ese hae adakee;
sharaab pee-e buraa kaam suje, te-esee budh bee hove usakee;
magh pee-e matavaalaa hove, na peechhaane aap gun or jee-aan;
neech haakam huaa aap jee-aan ddhu(n)ddhe, usakaa agu-aa huaa shaytaan...........83

An ignorant person is very mischievous and the mischief surpasses that of a drunkard. A person drinks alcohol and does wrong. He loses his senses. An alcoholic becomes intoxicated and is unaware of virtue or vice. A bad ruler seeks vices, for his guide is the devil.

jo baatu(n)se tuje raajee kare, une tujase baddaa dagaa keeyaa;
ek jaahel kasannee karataa thaa, shaytaan aav salaam rabakaa deeaa;
saath gadh-dhaa laayaa thaa ke chalo maeraaj, ye bhejee hae savaaree;
vo raajee ho chaddaa saaraa shaher feeraayaa, baatu(n)se raajee honekee ye khuvaaree..............84

The one who pleases you by kind words(hypocritically), is indeed being very deceitful to you. There was an ignorant who offered sacrifices and said prayers. The devil came to him and offered greetings from the Lord. He brought along with him a donkey and told him to go along with him for Meraaj as the ride was sent for the purpose. Gladly he got on the donkey and was taken all over the city. Such is the humiliation one experiences by listening to the sweet talk of the devil.

jaahel tu(n) mat honaa bhaaee, jaahelku(n) kuchh nahee nafaa bhalaaee;
vae naa duneeyaame(n) eej-jat paave, na aakabatme(n) koee usakaa sakhaaee;
jo chaaho khubee donu(n) jahaankee to suno eelam ek dhyaan;
neet neet meelo jaa, eelam majalasme(n), jeesathee paao eelam eerfaan..........85

Do not be an ignorant, o brother. Ignorance does not pay. Such people are neither dignified in this world nor have any companions in the hereafter. If you desire to benefit from both the worlds, then listen to ilm(knowledge) attentively. Daily go and attend gatherings of knowledge, thereby you will attain knowledge and inner understanding.
