Times of India (01/29/2001) - MUMBAI: The Aga Khan has announced a contribution of US $500,000 towards quake relief in Gujarat. This is in addition to food, medicines, tents and manpower that has already been mobilised by Focus Humanitarian Assistance (FOCUS), an international emergency response agency associated with the Aga Khan development network. Medical personnel from the Aga Khan health services as well as volunteers from Ahmedabad and Sidhpur in Gujarat and from Mumbai are en route to the worst hit areas.

Also, the Republic's Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Keftaro received the Prince Agha Khan. Talks during the meeting dealt with the current international situation and tolerance of the Islam religion and Islam call for intimacy and peace between peoples of the world.

Bishkek - : President Askar Akaev today officially inaugurated the Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank (KICB). With a fully paid-up share capital of 7m dollars, KICB becomes the country's largest commercial bank.The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), the principal shareholder, will also oversee management which draws on both international expertise and local professionals.
