His highness the Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims, today visited the construction site of the $50 million heart and cancer centre of the Aga khan university hospital (Nairobi), which is expected to be completed in 2010. The centre will be the first in the region to provide high quality cardiac and oncology care to patients using state-of-the-art technology and equipment, and will be a part of the aga khan universitys faculty of health sciences, east Africa first premier private medical school.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called on professionals trained locally to commit a fraction of their careers to serve the country. Raila said the government incurs losses through migration of professionals abroad. He was speaking at his office when he met his Highness the Aga khan, the spiritual leader of Ismaili community.

Several hundreds people were standing for hours on 3rd Parklands to welcome him. To their surprise, His Highness, accompanied with Princess Zahra, Ambassador Dehlavi of the Board of Trustee, Dr. Firoz Rassul, Asmita Gilani and other high level AKU staff walked on 3rd Parklands street. The Imam waved continuously at the Jamat up to the time he reached the gate.
