Around 250 saplings were planted in the village Hussain Abad and Tarr Khowaja through joint collaboration of Shia Ismaili Council and District Forest department that was followed by an event to highlight the importance of a healthy ecosystem and a nature-friendly atmosphere on the eve of Global Ismaili Civic day.

Speakers at the events shed light on the importance of planting trees and keeping the environment clean and green.

Leaders of Shia Ismaili Council, Taluka Mukhtiyarkar Jati Rafique Ahmed Memon, and District Forest Officer Sujawal Madad Ali Shah, Taluka and district education officers, and Ismaili Scouts took part in the tree planting exercise.

District forest officer Madad Shah while addressing the event eulogized the efforts of the community for realizing the need for tree plantation and taking steps for turning the country green.

Deforestation at a large scale in the rural areas led to many environmental hazards across the country adding that chopping of trees for minor benefits could cause massive environmental threats in the future.

“The mangroves are now being planted across the coastal region to save these areas from natural disasters”; he said and added that greenery guarantees our protection”.

Quoting examples of mangroves he said that the mangrove trees would resist Aslam Parvez, local community leader, highlighted the services of the community for the country and said that they wanted to work together with the forest department to make the area green.

He said that the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community Prince Karim Aga Khan had predicted environmental changes and global warming long ago and since 2015 his network AKDN had been working to ward off this threat.

Talking about the initiative Secretary Ismaili Council for Thatta and Shah Bunder Niaz Hussain Khowaja said that following the agreement between the Federal government and Ismaili Council for Pakistan the Ismaili community will extend its support for plating around 1 million trees across the country under the aegis of Ismaili civic an organization that is currently working on the issue of environmental changes in around 30 different countries of the world as per the directions of Prince Karim Aga Khan.

Meanwhile, the District forest officer announced to set up parks and orchards in the villages that would redouble the beauty of villages.
