Volunteers in Bangladesh distributed facemasks to various frontline workers
The Ismaili Muslim Community in Bangladesh joined tens of thousands of community volunteers from over 30 countries to celebrate the first ever Global Ismaili CIVIC Day on Sunday.
To commemorate the day, the volunteers partnered with 60 civil society and government partners to improve the quality of life in their communities through diverse activities to protect the environment and aid the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a press release.
In Bangladesh, volunteers from the Ismaili community distributed facemasks to frontline workers including street cleaners, security staff, and rickshaw pullers, as well as to law enforcement and emergency personnel from the Bangladesh Police, Ansar, and the Fire Brigade from Friday to Sunday.
They also distributed facemasks to Kuwait Bangladesh Maitree Government Hospital and to various local journalists and reporters.
The efforts of the volunteers in Bangladesh were supported by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Yellow by Beximco, and Mission Save Bangladesh.
The Ismaili CIVIC initiative was launched across the globe in 2020.
