The Kampala Serena hotel has been ranked 5th among seven most loved hotels by the royalty globally according to CNN Travel.

In a travel guide for those seeking to travel in the “royals ’regal footsteps” CNN listed seven places that have been considered the royals’ favourite when they travel, where Serena takes fifth place globally.
Serena is described as a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Uganda's Kampala capital, with architecture and design influenced by the country's cultural and natural heritage whose rooms and suites are elegantly furnished boasting an impressive collection by local artisans.

“High-profile guests praise the exceptional service, as it's impossible to leave this much-loved flagship Serena resort without being enchanted by the genuine warmth of Ugandan hospitality,” the CNN Travel says.

The hotel opened on 31 July 2006, has hosted a number of dignitaries including the Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko of Japan, Princess Zahra Aga Khan, and Mswati III, King of Eswatini and head of the Swazi royal family.

The hotel is part of the Serena Hotels Group, with 188 guests rooms and suites, one of which is a presidential suite. It is also rated a five star by the Uganda Tourism Board.

This, however, this does not come as a big surprise, back here it is one of the hotels held in high regard, also known as President Museveni’s most preferred hotel. Whenever he has an engagement outside the State House, Serena is usually the go-to place whenever the President is hosting dignitaries.

The other hotels listed are Cliveden House in the United Kingdom (UK) taking the first place, Gstaad Palace in Switzerland, Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada, Cheval Blanc Randheli in Maldives, Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, Portugal and Emirates Palace in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This also means that Kampala Serena is the only hotel listed on the African continent.
