Zee News - SHIA LEADER AGA KHAN MEETS PRESIDENT - 2003-04-14
The Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, will arrive on a six-day visit to Delhi mainly for discussions with Indian leaders on broadening the framework of activities of the Aga Khan Development Network in the country.
He will call on President A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, his deputy L K Advani and other leaders during his stay here.
The Aga Khan, who is visiting India after a gap of 11 years, will on April 15 preside at a ceremony to inaugurate the restoration of the Humanyun's Tomb gardens which has been undertaken by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India.
He will review progress on the Network's activities and meet with leaders of the Ismaili Muslim community, which has roots in this country going back many centuries.
The network agencies have contributed on a national scale to the improvement of quality of life of the people particularly in the areas of rural development, education, healthcare, micro-credit, financial services, humanitarian assistance and the enhancement of non-governmental organisations.
