Date:
Saturday, 1938, January 1Location:
His Royal Highness Prince Aga Khan III presided at the Convocation at the Aligarh University where he made a strong plea for the establishment of a scientific, industrial and technical research institute. He said that it would require a crore of rupees. They should collect Rs. 90,00,000 while he would contribute Rs. 10,00,000 (10 lakhs).
'The world of the future,' stated the Prince Aga Khan, 'depends upon science. There is no limit to the possibilities of science. I remember having been told in London that with atomic energy there is no reason why the other planets should not be new Americans. Muslims, who were once forward in science, are now backward. What they need, is a great research institute.'
