2004, May 21: He didn't attract as much attention as the Dalai Lama. He rarely does. But by the time he had slipped in and out of Ottawa on his private jet, the Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the world's 15 million Imami Ismaili Muslims, had given the city, and the country, a major gift. The Geneva-born imam, who is now based just outside Paris, has announced the creation of the Global Centre for Pluralism, which will be based in Ottawa.

2004, June 18: TORONTO - The biggest global threat is not failed states but failed democracies, the Aga Khan told a graduating class at the University of Toronto yesterday afternoon. The 49th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims appealed to the class of teacher graduates at Convocation Hall yesterday to instil in their students the virtues of pluralism, meritocracy and civil society - three pillars on which successful democracies are built.

2005, October 3: The Aga Khan received from Afghan President Hamid Karzai the Quadriga award in Berlin on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005. The award is bestowed every year on 3rd October in Berlin to four personalities of the political, economic, social and cultural life, who point the way to the future for enlightenment, regeneration and pioneering spirit through their commitment.

2005, November 8: President Hamid Karzai officially opened the most luxurious hotel in destitute Afghanistan on Tuesday, with the five-star Kabul Serena touted as a means to lure investors and dollar-spending tourists.The opening ceremony was attended by the Aga Khan, whose Aga Khan Development Network is the key backer of the project.

2005, December 19: His Highness Karim Aga Khan was in Portugal to sign a Protocol of Cooperation signalling the common intent to work toward the improvement of the quality of life of vulnerable populations in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries of Asia and Africa. During this visit HH the Aga Khan also recieved the Gra-Cruz de Cristo, or Military Order of Christ award.

2006-12 Pakistan-Convocation

2006, November 30-December 4: Karachi, Pakistan: Prince Karim Aga Khan arrived on Thursday for a five-day visit to Pakistan. Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad, Sindh Home Adviser, Wasim Akhtar, and other high-ups received the guest at the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport. Later, Prince Karim Aga Khan held a meeting with Ebad at the Governor’s House, during which matters related to education, health, industrial progress and investment were discussed.

2006, November 10: Kampala, Uganda: HH Aga Khan opened the Serena Hotel with President Yoweri Museveni. He also met with Prime Minister Professor Apollo Nsibambi, the Minister of Works and Transport Engineer John Nasasira, that of Energy and Minerals Mr. Daudi Migereko, State Minister for Industry Mr. Ephraim Kamuntu, and that of State for Investment Professor Semakula Kiwanuka.

2006, October 28-29: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan - His Highness the Aga Khan made a brief visit to Bishkek where he met with a wide range of Krygyz leaders, including President Kurmanbek Bakiev, Prime Minister Feliks Kulov and senior parliamentarians. During the visit, the Aga Khan discussed new opportunities for local and regional economic development, as well as expansion of social development initiatives currently underway in various provinces of the Kyrgyz Republic.
