The 18th Century A'alam Va'ez House in Isfahan, which is now used as the Isfahan headquaters. It is part of an ongoing project comprising more than 30 urban revitalisation and development initiatives in 21 cities throughout Iran that won the 2001 New Life for Old Structures Award.

Three African projects were among nine winners of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture that were presented yesterday at the Citadel of Aleppo, Syria at a ceremony held under the patronage of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

The Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, His Highness the Aga Khan, has called for freedom in the Islamic civilisation debate and proposed a model for analysing challenges facing Islam.

In a speech he delivered on Tuesday at the ceremony of the 8th Aga Khan Award for Architecture in Aleppo, Syria, the Imam said many Muslims carry with them a memory of the historical achievements of Islamic civilisations.

However, he said, persistent confusion about the existence and legitimacy of different communities within Islam has remained one source of misunderstanding.

His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam and Spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, has concluded his eight-day visit to Syria with a second round of extensive discussions with Syrian President Bashir Al-Assad.

The Agha Khan and Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa Miro also signed a framework Development Agreement between the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and Syria.

The agreement will facilitate the effective functioning and optimum utilisation of human and financial resources that the AKDN would mobilise for Syria. It also establishes an AKDN representative office in Damascus.

Aga Khan Health Services to Provide Healthcare Service - AKHS TO PROVIDE HEALTH SERVICES - 2002-10-14

AGA KHAN Health Services, Tanzania, has started to provide high quality healthcare services to the members of the newly formed Tanzania National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in an agreement reached in Dar es Salaam last month.
The move will see NHIF members receiving high standards of care from AKHS health facilities in six centres where the AKHS runs hospitals.

AKHS chief executive officer, Lawrence Hamilton said in Dar es Salaam last Monday that the new partnership with NHIF was important because the AKHS was looking forward to strengthen its relationship with the government of Tanzania.
