Brilliant Zarkava wins the Arc - 2008-10-05
"My family has been breeding racehorses for five generations," the Aga said. "Two generations in India and three in Europe, and I believe this moment is the apogee of that effort.
Zarkava became the first three-year-old filly since Akiyda in 1982 to win Europe's richest race, the four million euro Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, at Longchamp here on Sunday. Trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre, handled by jockey Christophe Soumillon and running in the colours of the Aga Khan, Zarkava beat last year's runner-up Youmzain.
In another quote, The Aga Khan said:
« No decision has been made yet concerning her future career. She will not run in the Breeders’ Cup. Today is the apogée for a breeding operation which dates back 90 years and for five generations of my family. I am really amazed by my filly. »
