OOGAMIYA SOHI DIN ATHAMIYA Sayyed Muhammadshah The sun that rises sets; the flowers that blossom wither; the high places crumble to the ground and those who are born, die. O self! Who are like a wasp going from one flower to another, you are full of greed and you are tempted by the worldly pleasures. Know that this world is a passing thing ('char din' means four days and refers to the four physical stages of life, childhood, youth, middle age, old age.) and finally you will have to return to dust. ...1 The Kevda (sweet smelling flower) dries up, the water-wheel breaks, the oxen working on the water-wheel stops walking and even the farmer leaves. ('kevda' here refers to the body, 'water-wheel' to lifespan, 'oxen' to the act of breathing and the 'farmer' to the soul). ...2 Millionaire and kings have passed away from this world; and many millions have died. Those who ruled and sat on high thrones have all mingled with the dust. ...3 The 'mind' which is held tight by the temptations of the world goes after the other people (leaving Hazir Imam). O wasp-like mind thou hast wondered a lot. Remember that this world (maya) is futile. ...4 Whose are the children, whose are the cattle, whose are the mother and the father? In the end the soul has to part alone. Only the meritorious and the evil deeds shall accompany (it). ...5 Sayyed Muhammadshah requests: O slave of God! Come along with me (to Hazir Imam) to benefit ourselves. The judgement (of our deeds) is in the hands of the Lord. ...6

UGAMIYA SOHI DIN AATHAMIYA Sayyed Muhammadshah The sun that riseth (undoubtably) setteth; that which blossometh (surely) withereth; the erected building crusheth down and that which is born dieth. ...1 Refrain: O wasp like mind thou art greedy thou hast been tempted by the temptations of the world. This vision is transient (lit. of four days). Ultimately one is destined to turn into dust. The kevda (kind of fragrant tree) hath commenced drying up, water-wheel too is broken, the oxen (working the water-wheel) have stopped walking. (Even) tiller himself hath parted. (All the above is allegorical. The Kevda is symbolised with the body. This means that the body has grown old. The water-wheel signifies the act of respiration, the oxen here mean the two legs, or Ingla and Pingla and the 'tiller', the soul). ...2 The millionaires and bearers of Chattra, i.e. Kings have passed away and many a million people have (likewise) gone away (died). Those who ruled and who used to sit in the balconies (of their lofty places) have all burnt to ashes. ...3 The 'mind' which is held tight by the temptations of the world goeth after other people (leaving Hazir Imam). O wasp-like mind thou hast wondered a lot. Remember that this world (Maya) is futile. ...4 Whose are the children, whose are the cattle (calfs), whose are the mother and the father? In the end the soul hath to part alone.
