Paath Pehlo (First Part)

bhrahm soha(n)g sat chit aana(n)d; maramaa oha(n)g
jeet tit bhaena(n)d...............................................1

When the outward breath (sohang) is permeated with divinity (bhrahm), it is a state of truth, consciousness and joy (i.e. it is the state of the happiness of the soul). The mystery of the Divine name is such that it is all pervasive (omnipresent).

alakh apaar so agam agochar
soee allaah aapoee bhitar.........................................2

He is indescribable and beyond limits and without comprehension and is invisible. God is in truth within your bodies (hearts).

alakh niree(n)jan naam dharaayaa
oha(n)g shabd so aap karaayaa.....................................3

The indescribable and the spotless assumed a name. He himself became the Divine name.

cheed shakit ku(n) paydaa keetaa
oha(n)g a(n)g so aana(n)d ditaa...................................4

He created the supreme power, and manifested joy in the body which is pervaded by the Divine word (oha(n)g).

kudarat unakee koee paar na paave
ana(n)t rachnaa so aap dikhaave...................................5

His wondrous power has no limits, and He shows you countless creations.

oha(n)g neeree(n)jan ek vrakshaja keetaa
unaku(n) ddaallee doejo deetaa....................................6

The indescribable word (oha(n)g) created one tree and two branches appeared(manifested).

ek nur mohammad mustafaa
ane dujaa nur alee murtazaa.......................................7

The first one is the light of Muhammed the chosen and the second is the light of Aly the favoured.

maaeefaatmaa bee unake bhele
hasan husen e nur maa(n)he khele..................................8

The mother Fatima (Hazarat bibi Fatimatis Zahra) was with them. Hazarat Hassan and Imaam Husein were also playing in the light.

esaa oha(n)g aape samarath
sarave vyaapak bujo jeet teet.....................................9

Such a word (oha(n)g) is itself omnipotent and know Him to be omnipresent.

satgur saahebkaa sharannaa leeje
oham aapsaku(n) saabat keeje.....................................10

Seek the protection of the True Guide (The Imaam of the time) and regard with conviction that Aly is always with you.

retu(n)hee oha(n)gkaar apaar bhaj, tajo abhimaan kaleshare
treeso akshar kaan dhar, eheebaddo upadeshare

O you, remember the Divine word (oha(n)g) in a limitless manner, and get rid of pride and ambition(for a worldly status). Listen to the thirty letters (of Arabic) which, as a collection is the great preaching.

Patth Beejo (Second Part)

(alef) ek aveenaasee dev
aapagat aparam apaar abhev........................................1

(aleef - first letter) The One Indestructible Divine; whose power is limitless and whose mysteries cannot be fathomed.

taa(n) jeev dhartu(n) dhyaan huzur
soee sabtthor rahaa bhar pur......................................2

O soul, maintain concentration upon Him, who is everywhere and all pervading.

(be) been jeebheeyaa samarann karo
mansu(n) le unakee dhun ja karo...................................3

(be - second letter) Without the movement of the tongue remember Him. Remain in His awareness mentally and be totally engrossed in Him.

purann bahm jahaa(n) tahaa(n) aap te
aja(m)peeyaa kaa keeje jaa(m)p....................................4

The complete and perfect Divinity is omnipresent and therefore perform the remembrance with the unpronounceable word.

(te) teet vasat sahej karleeje
bhajan kartaa(n) vila(m)b nakeeje.................................5

(te - third letter) Perform such an exalted deed effortlessly and do not procrastinate in this endeavour.

jo tan maa(n)he surat lagaave
to alakh neeree(n)jan ghattmaa(n)he paave.........................6

If you maintain the concentration in your body, then you will attain that which is indescribable and unknowable in your heart (interior).

(se)saabat hokar khojo dehee
bolan haar neeree(n)jan sohee.....................................7

(se - forth letter)With conviction seek within your bodies, then you will realise that the unknowable is the one who recites the unpronounced word.

ghattghatt bole ramataa raamaa naadba(n)d naaraayann naamaa.......8

In every heart the playful Divine speaks, the mysterious sounds are indeed Divine names (forms).

(jeem)jugat binaa jog na hoy
baate prem na paave koee..........................................9

(jeem - fifth letter)Without spiritual discipline (asceticism), there cannot be a sage. One cannot attain love simply by speaking about it.

jog jugatsu(n) laave dhyaan
sohee jogee-aa jug paramaann.....................................10

A sage focuses attention (concentration) through the spiritual discipline. It is such a sage who is to be called a sage in this world.

re tu(n)hee manchhaa vaachaa karamlaa jeene na khojee deheere
aahamad ve e nar mu(n)ddh hae jeeu gadhaa ke seer khehare

O you, the one who has not searched within his/her body either through the desire of the mind, obedience to the command or proper conduct, is indeed regarded as a fool by Sayyed Ahmed Shah. He is like a donkey with ashes on it's head.

Paatth Treejo(Third Part)

(he) hay hadme(n) had kee rel
behad maa(n)he mugatkaa khel......................................1

(he - sixth letter) If one is within the confines of the limited, he experiences the sorrows and tribulations of the limited. But the unlimited contains the mysteries of salvation.

sahej suneemaa(n) rahe samaay
te jogee ku(n) kaall na khaay.....................................2

The one who has attained the state of real peace and calm, is the sage who will not be affected by death (physical) or vicissitudes and vagaries of time.

chott na laage us sa(n)tanaku(n)
jamaddaa rahyaa jakh maaree

The head of the saint is not burdened by the thoughts of death because the agent of death is rendered powerless.

(khe) khaalakse je koee dheeyaave
aradh oradh beech taaddee laave...................................3

(khe - seventh letter) Whoever adores the Creator thus, experiences various sounds at the forehead between the two eyes.

saas usaase samarann maa(n)dde
karamkaatt choraasee khaa(n)dde...................................4

Upon every breath he performs remembrance and wipes out the effects of the sins of the eighty four (lakh cycles).

(daal)doaar das khoj le bhaaee
duaar mull baa(n)dho chitlaaee....................................5

(daal - 8th letter) Seek the tenth door (the point of contact between soul and body), O brother and at the source of the door, focus your attention.

pratham bettho agam me(n) jaage
tin lok me(n) timir bhaage........................................6

First be seated in meditation with detachment (to the world). Then the darkness of the three worlds will run away.

(zaal)jog pa(n)chukaa baanaa
bahaarjaa veso bhitar laanaa......................................7

(zaal - 9th letter)The attention is normally diverted outward as a result of the five vices (or sense perceptions). Redirect this attention inward towards your own real self (soul).

mel duaar das agam me(n) kare
kaho saadh vo kaysaa mare.........................................8

When one has established a relationship with the tenth door, ask how can such a sage die.

(re) raavat hoy pure aasan
prem hoy to bese si(n)haasan......................................9

(re - 10th letter)When one is fully proficient in the meditative posture he is regarded as a groom (a servant in the royal household). But when one attains love he seats on the throne.

treekuttee kottme(n) lashkar jodde saheje
ba(n)ko gaddh todde..............................................10

When one attains concentration upon the region in the forehead between the two eyes effortlessly, he is regarded as a hero who has reached the ultimate goal.

re tu(n)hee suraa puraa pa(n)thakaa, taje na apanee bhaan
aahmad ve nar mard hay, jo chaddkar maare maydaan

O you! A warrior on the perfect path does not shun the awareness of his real identity. According to Sayyed Ahmad Shah such a person is a real hero, the one who elevates himself and conquers the battlefield of life.

Paatth Chotho(The Fourth Part)

(ze) jor beena sat chalaave
ga(n)gaa ja(m)naa beech sarastee laave............................1

(ze - 11th letter) The one who without exerting strength, maintains truth(or remembrance), brings the River Sarasvati between the Ganges and the Jamuna(hence creating the place of pilgrimage, the 'teerath' the meeting of the three rivers).

[The rivers are symbolic of the three imaginary channels i.e ingla, pingla and sukhmana. Their meeting generates inner enlightenment hence the performance of spiritual pilgrimage].

(seen) sukhamanaa jo tanmaa(n) vaaje,
anhad dhor gagan maa(n)he gaaje...................................3

(seen - 12th letter) When the sukhamanaa force channel vibrates inside the body, unlimited sounds are generated in the universe.

dar barase a(m)bharat aabhaar bhare
taakee sevaa gorakh kare..........................................4

When the abode (body of a person) is filled with limitless nectar (continuos flow of Divine nectar), then even the devoted souls such as legendary Gorakh perform service of such a person.

(seen) shurakaa nahire kaamaa
eegalaapeegalaa bole raamaa.......................................5

(seen - 13th letter)Then such a courageous one has no work to perform as the imaginary channels of ingla and pingla speak the Divine name. i.e. recitation by the use of tongue is rendered useless.

taaddee laave dasahee du-aar
sat nara(n)jan oha(n)gakaar.......................................6

This person focuses his attention towards the tenth gate and thus becomes the performer of the true indescribable Divine name.

(so-aad) saadak kare je koee
ajareeyaa jare so amar hoee.......................................7

(so-aad 14th letter) The one who performs meditative prayer and digests the indigestible (feeds on the Divine word only) becomes immortal.

navnaaddeekaa jaanne bhevaa
taa(n)dhar neerbhare sukhadevaa...................................8

The one who realises the significance of the vital nerves of his body, is filled with the water from the spirits of peace.

(za-aad) jaruree sukhamanaa jove
cha(n)daasuraj beech baattee bohave...............................9

(za-aad 15th letter)He sees the vital imaginary channel - sukhamana(which generates spiritual enlightenment), and sees it for certain between the moon and the sun(inglaa and pinglaa force channels).

peeve amarat man kare ttha(n)ddaa
tab khele ek hee bharama(n)ddaa..................................10

He drinks the (divine) nectar and thereby cools his mind. It is then that he enjoys his oneness with the supra conscious mind (bharamand -divinity).

re tu(n)hee madmad maatee dhyaansu(n) or sakat bhay preet re
aahamad ese sa(n)tkaa koee savaad lahe ateet re

O You, when a person becomes intoxicated through this awareness and becomes engrossed in his devotion, according to Sayyed Ahmed, a person who acquires the taste of such a saintly one is indeed a real ascetic.

Paatth Paa(N)Chmo - Fifth Part

(toy) teyaar hoee khelekhelaa
naagnaath petthe paataa laa.......................................1

(toy - 16th letter) When a person is ready and sits in concentration like the king of the serpents who seat in stillness in the undersurface.....

baa(m)bee ulat sarapku(n) khaave
tab man e sahej samaave...........................................2

...or like a mungoose as it rises to eat a snake, it is then that the mind is in an effortless state.

(zoy) julamho khojo agam
ba(n)knaaddakaa raakho sa(n)gam...................................3

(zoy - 17th) Endure all tyranny and seek the incomprehensible. Maintain the companionship of the centre of the three force channels (spot of spiritual enlightenment in the body).

futte chak-kar matte shab shochaa
jalhal deese jagmag jotaa.........................................4

Thereby your restlessness will subside and all the worries will end. Flashes of light will be seen.

(aen) eenaayat harakee fire
cha(n)daa utare ne suraj chadde...................................5

(aen - 18th letter)One thus attains the awareness of God. The moon (human intellect, ego) descends and the sun(Divine intellect) ascends.

bhamar gufaamaa(n)he rahe samaa-e
te jogeeku(n) kaall na khaa-e.....................................6

Concentration gets focussed at the forehead between the eyes. Such a sage is not effected by death (he becomes immortal) or is not affected by vagaries and vicissitudes of time.

(gaen) ganeekaa keeje dheeyaan
pachham deese jem bhaann..........................................7

He remembers God in the manner of the sun rising from the west (i.e. with conviction).

veekase kallee-aa(n) kamal felaa-e
jaa(n)kee baas gaganku(n) jaa-e...................................8

(gaen - 19th letter)The bud will bloom and the lotus will spread. It's smell will be felt in the universe.

(fe) farmaan kumat-kaa mel
aasaamaar alakhsu(n) khel.........................................9

(fe - 20th letter)He gives up obedience to evil thoughts and relies entirely upon the indescribable (God).

donu(n) maarag ek karee jaann
esaa bole bhrahm geenaan.........................................10

Consider both stations as one, such is stated in the Divine knowledge.

re tu(n)hee, satagur saa(n)hee neermallaa
jeene deeyaa maram ga(m)bheer re
ahamad taake naampar
sadake karu(n) shareer re.............

O You, In the company of the True Guide remain pure, the one who has bestowed thought provoking mysteries. Sayyed Ahmed Shah sacrifices his body in His name.

Paatth Chhattho - Sixth Part

(kaaf)karaar sahej hay meraa,
satgur saaheb me(n) ba(n)daa teraa................................1

(kaaf - 21st letter) Peace and comfort are mine. The True Guide and the Lord, I am your creature.

deeyaa upadesh paddhaayaa naav(naam)
me balahaaree satgur ko jaav......................................2

He gave me the preaching and taught me the name. I offer myself to such a True Guide.

(kof) kumaarg kattkar chaal
trasanaa lobhane bharam ja(n)jaal.................................3

(kof - 22nd letter) By shunning evil entrap pings such as hatred, greed and ignorance proceed along the path.

ehee aashaa tu(n) tajare praannee
satguru bole amrat vaannee........................................4

Shun such vain hope O living one, the True Guide speaks about timeless matters (about Divine nectar).

(laam) lobh ni(n)daa luchaaee
unaku(n) chhoddo to hove bhalaaee.................................5

(laam - 23rd letter) Greed, backbiting and cunningness; leave these aside, then there will be prosperity.

jeebheeyaa or la(n)gottee raakh
sat sa(n)gat meelee paddvay saakh.................................6

Keep your speech under control. Keep companionship of the righteous ones or the Perfect Guide and thereby maintain a pure link.

(meem) maahamad hay sukhdevaa
teen lok-kaa jaanne bhevaa........................................7

(meem - 24th letter) Muhammed is the bestower of peace. He is the one who knows the mysteries of the three realms.

je koee unake maarg reve
so treegunnasuje ne aapgat leve...................................8

The ones who follow His path realise the virtues of the three realms and come to know their own selves.

(nun) nit harde hargunn gaave
nahito janam akaar tha jaave......................................9

(nun - 25th letter) Such persons always sing the praises of the Lord from their hearts, else they feel that their lives have been wasted.

naam samarane matte bikaaraa
bhaj bhagavat to utaare paaraa...................................10

Through the remembrance of the (holy) name, all kinds of diseases are cured and through the singing of the praises of the Lord one overcomes the limitations of material existence.

re tu(n)hee harako naam leekh - or akhar sab dhoyare
aahamad harhar boltaa - pachhe honnee sohoyare

O you, implant the Divine name in your hearts and wash away all other names or concepts. Sayyed Ahmed Shah says that once you are totally immersed in His name and love then whatever is to happen, let it be (do not be concerned about what is to happen as you are in his protection).

Paatth Saatmo - Seventh Part

(vaav) vohee hay or nadujaa
aape saahebne aape pujaa..........................................1

(vaav - 26th letter) He is the only one that exists and nothing else besides Him. He Himself is the Lord and He is Himself is (the object of) worship.

bharam bhut dehee maa(n)he rogaa
unasu(n) dekhe dujaalogaa.........................................2

The ghost of ignorance in the body is the disease. Through it the others see (the duality).

(he) haa(n)see mat najaanno eh
aape aatmaa ne aape deh...........................................3

(he - 27th letter)Do not regard this matter as a source of laughter or ridicule. He himself is the soul and He himself is the body.

aape aap or anaak
aysaa saadhu je bhareeyaa bhaatth.................................4

He Himself is All and the rest is non-existing. Such souls are filled with light of the Supreme Being.

(laamalef) hae ek anek aad a(n)taso ekaa ek.......................5

(laamalef - 28th letter) He is the One who is manifest in numerous forms and He is the One who existed from the beginning and will be there till the end.

manakee maayaa hae athaag
aasaa mett bhajanse laag..........................................6

The illusion of the mind is endless. Abandon it's hope and desire and get involved in the praises of the Lord.

(hamjaa alef)chitlaavo khelaa,
aape satgurne aape chelaa.........................................7

(hamjaa alef - 29th letter) Bring your awareness upon the Divine play (through religious discipline). Then you will realise that you are the True Guide and you are the disciple. (In the play you merge your identities).

aape aap or anaan
esaa kaheve bhram geenaan.........................................8

In spontaneous manner, the Divine knowledge reveals to you these mysteries.

(ye) to yaaree harjeesu(n) keeje
neesdeen naam hetesu(n) leeje.....................................9

(ye - 30th letter) Then keep friendship with the Lord and day and night recite the name lovingly.

harhar kartaa(n) aapaj khove
tab hardamme so har har hove.....................................10

When one through continuous recitation loses oneself, then upon every breath, only the lord is there.

re tu(n)hee mawlaa naam ees deheeku(n) sodetaa rasbhar ra(n)gare
aahamad jayse lohaku(n) so paaras palatte a(n)gare

O you, the name of the Lord gives such a body delightful joy. Sayyed Ahmed says, the body is transformed just like iron getting transformed into gold upon contact with a philosopher's stone.

Paatth Aatthmo - Eighth Part

paaras parase kare a(n)g soha(n)gaa
bhut aatmaa kare neej ra(n)gaa....................................1

When the philosopher's stone (holy name) touches it makes the body Divine. It transforms the body into it's own nature.

dehaa jeev fanaa kar ddaale
ek hee bhrahm maa(n)he aapas mahaale..............................2

It annihilates the body and soul and unites them into God.

jeevte jeev jeene apannaa khoyaa
jeevte aapaku(n) aapahee paayaa...................................3

The soul that has lost itself while alive, has indeed attained the realisation of itself.

satgur kirpaa neej huee sa(m)purann
khalak khaalak dohee ekahee sa(n)furann...........................4

Through the grace of the True Guide, one is fulfilled. The creation and the creator are from the same source (hence divinity is all pervasive, complete understanding of Islam is attained).

jeevan mugat jeev apannaa dekhe
mahaamugataa jeev palpal pekhe....................................5

He experiences the freedom of his soul while alive in this world. Gradually his soul achieves the status of higher freedom.

akha(n)dd vaa(n)ku neej hay aana(n)daa
aana(n)daa soheeje paramaana(n)daa................................6

He experiences unbroken joy and peace in himself. This joy is indeed the higher joy (of the soul).

guruchelaa na rahyaa koee
sohee rahyaa jaa(n)su sesttee hoee................................7

In this state, the relationship of the guide and the disciple dissolves and what remains is that from which the universe originated.

sarjannhaaraa soek anekaa
guruchelaa sab usame(n) chhekaa...................................8

The Creator is one, assuming many forms. The guide/disciple relationship is one of them.

aapakhoyaa tab paayaa maram
dekhedikhaave soha(n)g bhrahm.....................................9

When one loses himself, he attains the mysteries. He sees and shows God to others (through his enlightened behaviour and knowledge).

keett bhamareekaa tame dekho khelaa
esaa paayaa gur su(n) chelaa.....................................10

Look at the relationship between a worm (larva) and a bee. When a worm endures the leaking of a bee, it is transformed into the nature of the bee. Similarly when a disciple rigorously follows the guide, he is transformed into the nature of the Guide, i.e. becomes Divine himself.

re tu(n)hee, saheje seetallamaholme(n), jo sanmukh peeyujee paayare
ahmed tab vaeku(n)thh kee, aashaa kare balaayare

O You, when one attains the Beloved face to face in a state of coolness and comfort, Sayyed Ahmed Shah says that for such a person the desire for paradise is dissolved, i.e. there is no need for any other better state than this.
