Karachi, Pakistan, 15 December 2017 - The Aga Khan University’s Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME), a state-of-the-art facility for technology-based learning for health professionals, was inaugurated today by His Highness the Aga Khan, Chancellor of AKU.

The aim of the centre is to transform education of health professionals through the use of simulation and virtual reality technology to develop knowledge and skills, a statement quoted the CIME director Dr Charles Docherty as saying.

Kilwa — The government has lavished praise on the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) for implementing effectively an education initiative under a project dubbed Strengthening Education Systems East Africa (Sesea).

The implementation of the project started in 2012 with a purpose of building capacity to pre and primary school teachers on how best they can prepare teaching aid, monitoring and assess academic performance of their pupils.

The project intends to reach 187,344 teachers in the East African countries out of which Tanzania will have 69,515 female teachers as beneficiaries.

Dar es Salaam — The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is preparing to build two university campuses for the Aga Khan University (AKU) in Tanzania.

This was revealed yesterday by the director of the AKDN's Institute for Education Development (East Africa), Prof Joe Lugalla.
He was addressing a press briefing in Dar es Salaam on the Ismaili Jubilee & Carnival, which is scheduled for this Sunday.
According to Prof Lugalla, the first campus will be built in Arusha. It is estimated that construction will take six years.

Entebbe, 16 December 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Uganda today ahead of an expected event announcing plans for a new Aga Khan University Hospital to be established in Kampala.

Hazar Imam revealed his intention to establish the hospital in February, at the convocation ceremony of the Aga Khan University.

“With the cooperation of the government we plan to establish a new Aga Khan University Hospital in Kampala,” he said in his convocation address. “No Ugandan should have to leave the country to seek quality medical care.”

Kampala — Aga Khan University Hospital is poised to expand its footprint in East Africa after acquiring land from government to build aspecialised health facility in Kampala.

The 60-acre piece of land, which is part of the former Nakawa-Naguru Housing Estate, will host a teaching hospital.

The facility will serve as hospital and a health training institution for the Aga Khan University located on Gadaffi Road in Old Kampala, which trains doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday said the government was keen to exploit the economic potential of Gilgit-Baltistan particularly its energy and natural resources for the prosperity of people.

The Foundation Ceremony of the new Women’s Wing at the French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC) today, marked the start of construction for a new obstetrics and gynaecology wing on the hospital premises that will provide high quality care for mothers and newborns in Afghanistan. The building, which will take 24 months to complete, will offer 52 additional beds for obstetric and gynecologic care and a 14-bed neonatal intensive care unit — the first in Afghanistan.

The minister for East African Cooperation, Dr Diodorus Kamala, has expressed government satisfaction on the progress recorded in the construction of the Aga Khan University.

The new university, which will cater for students from across East Africa, is being built at Manyara Estate, a suburb of Arusha City.

Speaking after inspecting the ongoing construction, Dr Kamala said he was pleased that the work has been going on as planned.

He said construction of the university is a demonstration of the growing relations and cooperation among East African Community (EAC) member states.
