The Atlanta Botanical Gardens is hosting a panel-discussion on the theme 'Restoration and Preservation of Historic Sites - More Than Mere Beautification'.We are indeed very privileged to be able to host Mr. Cameron Rashti, Director of the Historic Cities Program at AKTC, who will be flying in from Geneva to chair the discussion. Joining him on the panel will be architectural preservationist Jack H. Pyburn.

April 17 - The Aga Khan, head of the world's 15 million Ismaili Muslims, arrived at Fulton County Airport today to celebrate with his Georgia followers his 50th anniversary as their leader. A band greeted him with the Ismaili anthem and the U.S. national anthem, and a representative from Gov. Sonny Perdue's office as well as local politicians were on hand to welcome him. His Highness the Aga Khan also visited the Residence of the Governer of Georgia.

Ismaili Muslims are planning to build a community center on 6 acres off Five Forks Trickum Road near Snellville.Plans are still fluid for the center at Five Forks and Arnold Road, said Sajida Shroff, a community volunteer with the Aga Khan Foundation USA, which owns the land.
It will offer youth and educational programs such as SAT preparatory classes, healthy living sessions, economics classes and sporting activities, Shroff said.
'Potentially, there will be an area for contemplative prayer,' she said. 'That's one of the things being decided.'

Close to 1,000 Muslim health care professionals from around the country will meet in Atlanta this weekend to discuss medical treatment and training programs in developing countries.
The doctors, nurses and researchers are with the Ismaili Health Professional Association, a Houston-based group that runs clinics and organizes missions in Asia and Africa.

Ismailis represent about 15 million of the more than 1 billion Muslims worldwide. They are a subset of Shiite Muslims, who are a separate, smaller Muslim community than the majority Sunni Muslims.

Prince Karim Aga Khan, a billionaire philanthropist and spiritual leader of some 20 million Muslims worldwide, stressed the importance of education in the age of globalization in Atlanta as he helped the International Baccalaureate celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The International Baccalaureate, or IB, has programs for students aged 3-19 at 2,300 participating schools in 126 countries, said Monique Seefried, chair of the IB Board of Governors.
