Actuellement, les travaux de restauration de la Grande Mosquée de Mopti qui était presque en ruine, sont en cours sous l’égide du Trust Aga Khan pour la culture.
Construite dans le style soudanais en 1936 et 1943, cette importante structure architecturale de terre, a été édifiée sur le site d’une précédente mosquée élevée en 1908.
La mosquée de Djenné est également connue sous le nom de mosquée de Komoguel.

Renovation of Mopti Mosque by Aga Khan Trustfor Culture Completes First Phase -RESTAURATION GRANDE MOSQUEE DE MOPTI - 2005-05-04
Posted July 9th, 2009 by heritageDuring his recent visit to Mali, the Aga Khan reviewed restoration efforts undertaken on Mopti's Grand Mosque by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC). The mosque, an earthen structure built in the traditional Sudanese style between 1936 and 1943 on the site of an earlier mosque dating from 1908, was at serious risk of collapse until the Aga Khan Trust for Culture commenced restoration work. It is expected to be fully restored by 2006. 'Mopti's mosque is an outstanding example of the traditional Muslim architecture of the Sahel,' said the Aga Khan.

A Tombouctou, il a été reçu par les imams des différentes mosquées de la ville et il a pu examiner la collection de manuscrits du centre Ahmed Baba et observer la procédure de numérisation de ces trésors.

Baboye Thiam at the Sofitel Hotel. The Aga Khan subsequently met the President of Mali.On Sunday, July 31st, The Aga Khan will be flying to Mopti with the AKDN delegation and other dignitaries. A visit to Sangha is scheduled as well as the Mosque that has been restored. Sunday evening H.H the Aga Khan is invited for dinner at the official residence of the President in Koulouba.

The agreement, signed in the presence of His Excellency Cheik Oumar Sissoko, Minister of Culture for Mali, aims to provide the Museum with a new information technology system, as well as improving the conservation facilities of its collections.
