The first-ever global convocation ceremony of the Aga Khan University (AKU) was live-streamed to a worldwide audience on Saturday, as 667 students in three continents received their degrees and listened to speeches by the Aga Khan, Chief Guest Melinda French Gates and AKU President Firoz Rasul.
The Convocation was attended also by Prince Amyn, Princess Zahra, Prince Rahim, Prince Hussain and Prince Aly Muhammad

Prince Karim Aga Khan acquires Gwadar for Pakistan 1958-09-08
Posted May 7th, 2021 by librarian-hdReportedly, 2400 square miles of the Gwadar area came under the domain of the Sultan of Oman in 1947. It was administered by Great Britain, and fifty percent of the revenue from the area went to the Sultan. Eventually, an American company identified Gwadar’s potential as a deep port. Through this port, 25 varieties of fish could be exported in significant quantities every year.
The Shah of Iran tried to acquire this land through the US’ influence in Britain, but in 1956, Pakistani Foreign Minister Malik Feroze Khan Noon decided that this land had to be acquired at all costs.

Established jointly by Special Communications Organization of the Government of Pakistan and the Aga Khan Foundation Pakistan, the IT Park in Hunza will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure with un-interrupted power supply, high-speed internet facility and a co-working space for small and growing businesses, start-ups, freelancers, and chamber of commerce.

EU to help uplift Pakistani communities impacted by Covid-19 - with AKF
Posted March 20th, 2021 by librarian-hdThe European Union has decided to co-finance three projects, for more than €7 million, to alleviate the socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on communities in Pakistan.
The initiative also aims to increase the voice of the youth as well as providing support to Pakistan's civil society.
The announcement followed the signing of three contracts by Androulla Kaminara, Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, and representatives of the main implementing partners: Agha Khan Foundation, Norwegian Church Aid, and Deutsche Welthungerhilfe.

MoU signed for EPI vaccination between AKUH and District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi 2021-02-19
Posted February 24th, 2021 by librarian-hdRawalpindi : Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) and District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for establishing a vaccination centre under Expanded Programme on Immunization at AKUH Saidpur Road, Rawalpindi Branch with an objective of enhancing the outreach for meeting vaccination targets.
A simple ceremony for signing the MoU was organised in a local hotel in the federal capital the other day. Chief Executive Officer of AKUH Shagufta Hassan and CEO of DHA Rawalpindi Dr. Faiza Kanwal were the signatories.

Researchers at Aga Khan University are harnessing the power of stem cells to generate new insight into how malnutrition occurs. The 2018 National Nutrition Survey says malnutrition is a major public health problem in the developing world, with four out of ten children under the age of five in Pakistan suffering from stunting while one in three children is underweight.

Pakistani women scale the heights in rescue teams
Posted February 18th, 2021 by librarian-hdShamim Bano, a middle-school teacher, has recently returned from a fortnight in Kabul where she taught Afghan women to do search and rescue work. The training “involved climbing mountains and gorges using ropes and harnesses, using ziplines and rappelling. Any wrong move and you can start a rock fall,” she explained.
Handling serious casualties, “with broken bones, head, neck and back injuries,” was also part of the training, she added.
