Aga Khan's Global Centre for Pluralism moves into heritage digs after decade of delays 2017-01-30
Posted February 13th, 2017 by librarian-hdA think-tank founded by the Aga Khan with $30 million from taxpayers has finally moved into a prime heritage building in Ottawa 10 years after the federal government gave it a 99-year lease.
The Global Centre for Pluralism (GCP) pays the federal government $1 a year to use the building at 330 Sussex Dr., formerly the Canadian War Museum. The agreement also allows the GCP to lease out office space in the building at commercial rates.
And it already has a tenant: the Royal Canadian Mint, a Crown corporation.

Aga Khan gives £27m to Chantilly restoration 2005-03-03
Posted February 13th, 2017 by librarian-hdThe Aga Khan is to donate €40m (£27.4m) of his fortune to help restore France's largest privately owned estate, which includes a park, a Renaissance chateau, a racecourse and the biggest classical art collection in the country outside the Louvre.
The billionaire businessman and racehorse owner, who is a British citizen, will provide more than half of a €70m fund set up with the French state, the Institut de France - which owns the magnificent but badly decayed Chantilly estate - and local authorities.

Speech by H.H. The Aga Khan at Centenary Celebration Meeting, Association of American Universities 2001-04-22
Posted February 10th, 2017 by librarian-hdThank you President Vest for your very generous words of introduction and thank you all for the very warm welcome. It is an honour to be invited to address such a distinguished assemblage of educators. If IQ could be converted into kilowatts, I have no doubt that the quantum massed here tonight would meet the world's energy requirements for at least a decade.

Posted February 10th, 2017 by librarian-hdThe Aga Khan enjoys a solid reputation in the world of international development. If Trudeau acted improperly, observers say that’s on him, not the Aga Khan.
Two weeks ago, during an overseas trip, former prime minister Stephen Harper tweeted to his 1.11 million followers. “Just visited the magnificent #Ismaili Centre Dubai,” he wrote. “Reminds me of what a tremendous force for global peace and pluralism the Aga Khan is.”

The tragedy of Shergar: Champion racehorse and potential stud star kidnapped, never found 2017-02-06
Posted February 8th, 2017 by librarian-hdCan you imagine the enormity of the scandal if Black Caviar was stolen and was still missing 34 years later?
A tale like that began on a foggy Irish winter’s evening on Tuesday, February 8, 1983.
Shergar, one the world’s most brilliant, adored and valuable racehorses, was soon to begin his second season as a stallion when a gang of gun-wielding kidnappers broke into Ballymany Stud and forced head groom James Fitzgerald to load the horse into a float.

Aga Khan's Australian foray comes to fruition 2017-02-02
Posted February 3rd, 2017 by librarian-hdTHE initial breeding venture between John Messara's Arrowfield Stud and the Aga Khan Studs, whereby the Aga Khan maintains a group of Australian-based mares at Arrowfield, comprised just six mares back in 2008. But like plenty of the decisions that the Aga Khan has taken over the years to enhance his bloodstock, the results have been far reaching and now, a little under a decade later, this is one with international consequence.
