Today marks the 147th birth anniversary of Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan, a key Muslim leader in the pre-independence period who played a crucial role in the movement for independence. Influenced by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Sir Aga Khan committed himself to the advancement of Muslims across the Subcontinent, entering the political arena at a young age.

Born on November 2, 1877, to Aga Shah Ali Shah, the 47th spiritual leader of Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, Sir Aga Khan inherited the mantle of the 49th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community at only seven years old.

High Highness Sir Sultan Muhammed Shah, Aga Khan III GCSI GCMG GCIE GCVO PC was the 48th Imam of Ismaili Shia Muslims. He was the first President of the All-India Muslim League. He was born in Karachi on 2 November 1877, but passed away in Versoix, Switzerland on 11 July 1957. After Sir Syed Khan, he played a leading role not only in strengthening the political role of the Muslims of the Indo-Pak subcontinent, the cause of Aligarh Muslim University but the Pakistan Movement also.
